FR-S Group buy in California?

Just saw the post for a group buy in Canada and thinking that approach might work in sunny Ca.

I'm a retired old fart and don't want to take it on but would participate. Currently on a list for Red MT FR-S North of SF but would go pretty much anywhere in the state to save a few hundred bills.

PriusChat forums did a group buy with the Plug-In Prius at my dad's work in Putnam Toyota in Burlingame, despite limited quantities. I can ask him if we can do one there, and he can ask the manager who helped PriusChat.

Putnam Toyota prioritizes the Prius though so that might be one thing to consider.

Just noticed Costco has Scion listed although I'm not a member it might be a good starting place for someone that is.

^The problem with going through Costco is that it requires the dealer themselves to say yes or no to whatever Costco is planning. :/

I don't get it, my understanding is that the dealer agrees to participate but Costco can't dictate the exact discount, maybe approve it but not dictate that would be price fixing.

Also when I went through Costco in 2004 for a Prius it was directly through the dealer after I submitted a request for quote through Costco's site. I looked at the Costco site yesterday and the format appears to be the same I just don't have a card anymore.

^It all depends on your dealer and if they're willing to honor whatever offer they have with Costco is what I'm getting from my dealer on how the auto program works. So regardless if Costco is dictating a price, its unlikely there will be a discount on the BRZ.

Got on another list today and got into a discussion about Costco. The bottom line is it just gives you whatever the dealers advertised price is. So there is basically no discount. I'll be talking to a few more dealers today and will confirm. I'll get $1K off by putting my son's name on the title since he is a recent college grad although that program is almost over.

Forgot to mention that I also discussed group buy with Scion Vacaville and the rep. said can only offer an advertised price although I still don't believe it. I'll continue checking with some others....

You're right. I might just end up getting BRZ Premium instead of Limited. And in case I don't get to buy the car at all this year, one of you guys can have my #10 spot (SWP Limited BRZ MT).

BTW, stop posting in here. Go to the California section please.

Close thread, Mods.
