I have alerts set up on several sites looking for "the one". Unfortunately when one comes up its either too far away, too beat up or too expensive.

My friend has a perfect example sitting in my shop. He uses it as a shelf and won't sell it to me.

you can see it on the left here:

Sounds like you need to put together a night raid and set it free!

It's a mad world. They call this coupe. Thank god they didn't name it as hyper-car.

The world is becoming fake and fake. Fake exhausts, fake vents, fake carbon fiber look, fake wood coating, fake laughs in car reviews.

Yet, Ferrari is still not fake. This is really superfast

Yes this comment has nothing to do with this thread.. sorry

I firmly believe the intent was to give the ND 180hp all along, but that it took more time than expected to get that motor to pass global emissions. There was no obvious outside influence to push more power on to the Miata. None of it's rivals got a big HP bump, no competition got a newer faster model either.

That's not true at all. The vast majority of vehicles never compete in any motorsport events. What's important are the non-competitive classifications used for 99.9% of the world's vehicles by the public, insurance companies and government entities, none of whom give a shit what class you race in.

Yeah, you're not wrong here... I should have said they were marketed with the promise or implication of "sports car" handling, more so than muscle cars of the day...

Generally Mustangs were huge, sloppy whales compared to my old Triumph.
Which Triumph? TBH they were all pretty archaic! I got a 240Z instead...
Anyway, the 64-66 Mustangs may have been "huge" relative to a Spitfire, but they weren't big cars really. Sloppy, yeah, I guess so! GT350 was indeed a somewhat different beast, thanks Shel...

Anyway, I'll 100% stick by my counterpoint that modern "pony cars" are not historically lightweight, but rather are pretty severely overweight relative to older pony cars. To me they are big and heavy enough to bump up into the "muscle car' category. Pony cars should be smaller and lighter.

1. Car and Driver was populated by morons if they thought that car would out-handle a Corvette, and
2. American cars in general didn't handle very well in the '80s.
Well, I'm sure Car and Driver has a ton more objective data and subjective impressions from driving and comparing/contrasting those cars than you do... That said I didn't agree with their conclusion at the time. Here's the article if you wanna peruse it: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...mparison-test/
And companion piece comparing imported car handling:
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...ed-comparison/

No, most American cars didn't handle all that well at the time, not relative to modern cars. But neither did most imports! 911s still had trailing arm rear suspension in the 80s, and most other rwd imports had either semi-trailing-arms or live axles. For sure they almost all had their quirks...

Me too, for an '88/'89 S/C. After searching for an acceptable example, found one last year within 50 miles, only 12K on the odo being sold by the original owners. We agreed on price and had a deal until I told them I'd be racing it in autocross. His wife quashed the sale, horrified that their baby, previously only used in parades and displays, would be "abused" on a track. I got annoyed with their dictate and walked. I've been kicking myself since. It sold the next day.

Keep in mind that the handling is all in the suspension tuning, not the link setup. The 911 still uses mcphersons all around. The E46 M3 had a 4 link rear trailing arm setup. Plenty of cars handle really well with old suspension setups, and plenty of double A-arm/5link IRS cars handle like dogshit.

Of course spring rate and damping tuning are very important, but the role of geometry and how it changes under bump/rebound and hard cornering loads is critical! Nothing against *well-designed* non-double-wishbone or multilink setup (my old 240Z's rear Chapman struts, ferinstance), but the old 911 trailing arm setup was not great... They improved it with the 964, and for a while now (since the 993 I think?) they have multilink rear suspension.
911 never had strut rear suspension, I don't think...

But yeah, you have to get the geometry *RIGHT* whatever the suspension design. My '11 Cayman's rear strut suspension has better geometry than my '01 S2000's "superior" double-wishbone setup (with unfortunate, ridiculous designed-in rear toe-change with bump).
