First oil change on FR-S

So I just bought my car recently and dealer sticker says to take in for first service at 7,500 miles. I'm at 2,800 miles right now and was wondering if I should take it in at 3,000 for the first service. 7,500 seemed too long for me. Anyone have any recommendations?

7500 is fine. Modern oils are amazing. If you track your car, then you should change fluids more frequently. Otherwise, manufacturer-suggested intervals are plenty.

Yep, like said, for average driving, just follow the maintenance guide and your car will be just fine.

7500 is not fine. subaru changed later models to 6000. i follow the shorter OCI. I change oil myself, the additional cost or effort can be ignored.

According to my Toyota dealership up here in the frozen north, they suggest oil changes at 3750 miles. I am under ToyotaCare which was free, so I get these changes free for the first two years. I negotiated a free oil and filter change at the first 1000 miles. I do that for every car that I buy. Then I follow the schedule. I agree, though, that 5000 miles for an oil change is fine.

7500 is fine with modern synthetics, but with new cars I dump all fluids at ~1k miles to get rid of break-in metal/debris.

I like the idea of the first oil change coming really early. Pretty sure it doesn't actually matter any more, but it cannot hurt. Besides that it depends on how you drive, modern synthetics can easily go 15-20k between changes.

I just talked to my service advisor at the Toyota dealership on Saturday. The ToyotaCare plan for the 86 and FR-S is this: You get 3 free oil/filter change tire rotations for the first two years. That's at 7500, 15000 and 22500 miles. That's what he recommended. I brought my FR-S in for an oil/filter change at 1000 miles. I know it's not recommended at that time, but, it can't hurt. At 7500 miles I will go in for the free service to start the whole thing rolling. OP, it couldn't hurt to get your oil changed now (at 2800 miles) and then go for the freebies. I hope this helps.

Well, qqxj, maybe 7500 is not fine for you, but it is for me. For my 2013 FR-S, I side with the manufacturers engineers recommendations and the fact our cars have oil filters, magnetic oil plugs and use synthetic oil.

So, you change the oil yourself and ignore the additional costs .....do get your oil and filters free ......??

@humfrz thing is either '14-15 they changed the recommended oil changes in the manual at 5000 miles on the same engine. I'd go with their updated info.

Well now, @qqzj , in the maintenance guide for my 2013 FR-S, the manufacturer wrote that for normal driving, to change the engine oil and filter every 7,500 miles or 7.5 months, whichever occurs first.

So, that's what I'm going to do ..... for my car ....... periods........................................... .................................................. ....................................
