Haven't heard them in my '14 BRZ with around 4K miles. Never buy a car from the first production year!

>20k miles on my car, original fuel pump (pre-green dot), been silent for over 10k miles.

I agree that they seem to go away over time, mine appeared to be unrelated to temperature or fuel used.

I stopped hearing my crickets too, but my windows are up these days with the colder weather. We'll see if they return in the summer. Mine were never that loud to begin with.

Mine are dead or hibernating too.

I've been filling up at the same Shell station with few exceptions since sometime last summer, always with 91.

Through the warm summer temps, cooling off fall, and even the cold snap in early winter when it was low 20's/high teens in the morning (I'm in SoCal, that's Arctic weather for us!) it was chirping away.

I've noticed since the warmer temps we had in January it hasn't chirped.

Now that I said that, I'm sure it'll chirp this morning.

It's Ethanol content, not octane

I only have 91 octane gas available, 7700 miles and never heard the crickets.

I always (99.9%) use Shell 93 and the crickets refuse to die!
3rd fuel pump and have become resigned to the fact that they will always be around. The latest pump with 2500 miles on it does seem to be a little less obnoxious but they are still here. Could be that over the 19,000 miles you just get used to them. None the less I will be reporting the crickets to the dealer at my 22.5K check up. God they hate me when I come in.

Umm, why? I had 3 pumps that chirped on 93 octane. I was already running 93 octane gas and it was chirping. So low octane gas being the reason for it chirping doesn't make sense to me.

I suspects it's the water content and cavitation in the pump.
