OP is in SoCal, so it might only be a five mile commute as the crow flies!

Truth is that nobody can really answer because a lot is going to depend on how well the stock seat fits you. I have done, and am about to do, another 1000 mile/day trip in the FRS. The seats are OK, but nothing to write home about; certainly not what they were designed for.

The car itself is a pleasant enough place to spend time if you don't mind the sparse amenities. Myself, if spending that much time in the car, I would go for a motorized couch with a good ICE system.

I shift at 2-3k rpm, rev match, mostly drive at 60mph and take off as fast as a granny on her way to Safeway. Just came back from Santa Maria today and got 39mpg, but I was going 66mph.

Now, if I drive in town, partial highway and/or heavy traffic... 27-29mpg. If unlucky and drive like a fool, 24mpg!

I'll get an app though. I have 3 more trips down there this month.
One of the tenants of hypermiling is to briskly accelerate to cruising speed.. I'm not a hypermiler or have much knowledge on that front. Can someone who has good knowledge and understanding of mileage and engine load/use chime in?

Everything I've ever read on the subject points to faster acceleration to speed resulting in better overall gas mileage due to time spent "under stress".

Anyway that is what I tell MomHawk every time she gives me that look when I speed away from a light change.

save the environment, for commuting that long go buy a Lexsus CT200H or a prius instead of a sports car.

Oh, god no. I read the first thread and immediately went and found that commercial. If you're commuting 4 hours a day, get the Avalon. It's airplane smooth. See how happy everyone is?
