Most guys may think a minivan is the worst thing ever, but if you're hauling family; a minivan is the best thing. Fastest way to load some kids and the trunk area is set low to allow for quick loading of large objects like strollers, ice chests, etc.

I'm still (unsuccessfully) pushing the wife to allow a minivan in the driveway Getting closer though as she started a new business and with my job it really would make life easier. She's got this bug up her bum for SUV's though because they're big, burly and have AWD.

How big is your family? If it's big, you can take advantage of another one of the many perks of owning and driving a Twin.... a small carbon footprint and the inherent smugness that goes with that ... and drive one of these (or two... currently looking to add another one to the fleet 'cause we love the one we have so much) without feeling guilty LX470

My wife was against minivans until she drove one and did mom stuff in it. A couple days with the minivan was all it took to make her a believer.

We've rented them a few times over the years and she understands the benefits but just can't get past the soccer mom aspect. Now that our kids are off at college she won't need it for mom stuff but we need it because our toys are big, the stuff for her business takes up space and I'm a bike sales rep so need to be able to transport big things long distances regularly. It's so weird that she gets the utility part of it but is still so set against it. I'm probably going to just go ahead and get one in the spring anyway, she'll get over it

We have three sons, all of whom played sports, did marching band, etc. From 1989 to 2012 our "family car" was a Chevy Astro (well two of them, an '89 replaced with an '01). To me it was the perfect family car. It got decent gas mileage for the time (18 to 25MPG), had a huge range (you could drive it for over 500 miles on the road) could pull an 8 ft trailer with ATVs, and when needed you could remove the seats and use it as a cargo van. Personally I think it was a sad day GM discontinued them.

We now have a 2004 Suburban Z71 we bought used for about a 1/5 of its original price. More comfortable than the Astro, but the mileage sucks. It also converts easily to a hauler but the lower roofline limits some things you can carry. But we can carry 7 and luggage on a beach vacation with no problems.

When I drive my FRS, only like half of the other twins I come across notice/acknowledge me. When I'm driving the family minivan, I doubt anyone bothers to see who the driver is. lol. Most people on the road don't care about what kinda cars are around them or who is driving them.

lol x2

The minivan was great while the kids were babies (3) and even better on long road trips. When they grew up a little and were able to get into their seats on their own we got bough a crew cab F150. So my wife drives the lifted truck and I'm in the FRS.

I just added a 17 BRZ PP to compliment my family car, a 17 Focus RS. Highly recommended.....no dull moments no matter which car you drive.

We have a 3rd gen mazda 3 hatchback with the manual. It's a great car that is fun in it's own right, just a little more easy to throw things into. Also it gets good gas mileage and runs on 87 @ 33mpg. Also it is easy to work on.

I'm in the same boat - looking for a family hauler. There is NO WAY I'm selling the BRZ, so wife's car has to go!
I'm cross-shopping between Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot/Acura RDX & Dodge Journey 4-cyl. Most definitely it will be a used vehicle, with a Naturally Aspirated engine.
