The Cricket

Ok, now I am starting to get crickets every so often I drive my car. Sometimes I hear it and others I don't but I don't want it to get worse. I drive 90 miles daily 5 days a week to work so I am burning through my warranty and probably be out of warranty 1.5 years after I just bought it. I was going to have Toyota replace the part on my next free maintenance. I was just wondering if I were to get Toyota to replace the part under warranty now and when I drive pass 36,000 miles, same pump fails again, would it be out on my pocket?

I'm guessing once warranty is over, it's over. Out of pocket unless they did a recall. But from what I read, there is no real fix for it yet.

Tsbs are only covered under warranty (usually). However some manufacturers issue tsbs for customer satisfaction.

How has it failed?

Silly noises are annoying but odds are the next pump will make a similar noise. How many miles are on your car? Some people report the noise goes away over time.

Yes if you want to change fuel pumps after 36,000 miles odds are you will have to pay out of pocket unless you do some finagling.

burning through the warranty? I haven't heard that the crickets have actually caused a pump to fail. The most common way to fix the cricket noise from my experience and from what I have read is to use a synthetic no ash 2 stroke oil and add it to the gasoline. Or you could add Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant like I do.

Mine chirps, don't care. I've not seen one report of a failed pump, and they have "fixed" the pump four times by my count, and they still chirp. E-free gas or Uplon fuel lube seems to shut them up.

Yes burning through warranty. Our cars are warrantied to 3 years or 36k miles I think. I bought the car October 19, 2013. The miles showing on the Odometer is at about 19,600. I am guessing the car wont make the 3 year mark considering I bought the car in October with only 12 miles on the Odometer.

I also bought a 2013 Avalon Hybrid on July 4, 2013 with 40 miles on the Odometer. I just did it's 25k oil change last week!

Normally I don't care too, It's just that it started showing up on me and I know that my warranty is also coming to an end in probably a year or less even though I just bought it not even a year ago new.

That's the bumper to bumper warranty that fixes minor things like noises, interior pieces failing early, lights etc.

If a fuel pump were to actually fail I believe it would fall under the 60k mile/5 year powertrain warranty:

Quote:
Your engine, transmission/transaxle, drive system, seatbelts and airbags are covered for 60 months/60,000 miles (whichever comes first).
http://www.scion.com/cars/FR-S/warranty/

But as stated above, there have been zero fuel pump failures so far.

Are either of these safe for the catalytic converter?

the lucas product is safe. As for the 2 stroke oil, I would imagine even long term use of a synthetic ash-less 2 stroke oil would clog up the cat overtime.
