Stock Primacy in "winter" temperatures?
I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep the stock Primacy HP tires on my 2017 BRZ (my daily) going into the winter here. It doesn't get overly cold where I live - probably looking at lows generally in the mid 30s overnight but occasionally dipping a little below 30. Especially since the Primacy doesn't grip that well in hot dry weather to begin with I'm a bit worried going into the colder months. I don't garage the car so it's going to be sitting out in the cold overnight.
Since it doesn't get to actual winter tire conditions here I'd probably be looking to get a nice set of all-seasons and just use those year round. From what I've read on here and on The Tire Rack it looks like the best A/S tire is Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. I'm a bit hesitant to make the swap though since my OE tires barely have 3k miles on them so they're still practically new. So is it worth it to get the new A/S tires at this point or should I maybe wait until next winter when my tires have another year on them? |

If your not driving on snow or ice, just keep them on.

I drove on primacy's during winter last year here in NJ, which is most likely considerably colder and icier than wherever you are in california, and it wasn't too bad. That being said, just be careful. When the temp gets down below like 40 you can feel the lack of grip. Just keep your wits about you and you'll do fine.

Cold temps are not to much of a big deal on these but if you get any snow/ice forget it.

I drove the stocks the first winter. No problems. I drove on my MPSS this morning. It was 37 degrees F and dry. I have noticed (I slid the car) that they loose traction at this temp when pushed hard. If you drive like your mom is in the car (Hopefully you drive slow when your mom is in the car) it should be fine. I haven't had any trouble when driving "easy" on my michelins.
When there is ice; I drive my AWD vehicle.

Wait, hold up. What part of California are you in?
Do you actually see snow on the ground? Are you new to cars? If you are below Sacramento and do not live by Tahoe, there is nothing to worry about. Even at a 30 degrees If you actually drive in snow then yeah, winter tires are suggested

There's never any snow around here, I was just concerned about the minimum temperature these tires are good for since the only numbers I was seeing were suggesting not using summer tires below around 40-45 degrees F. I know I don't need winter tires here, just wanted to make sure the stock summer tires can handle the temperatures over the next couple months or so.

Lol stock "summer" tires? I'm sorry dude, some one lied to you.
What you have on your car are cheap all season tires. I'm pretty sure the sales man told you how wonderful and super performance tires the stock ones are just because they have brand name of Michelin. You'll be fine this California "winter" Even if you had good high performance "summer" tires here in California's "winter" you'll be fine. Unless you drive in snow, that's a different story. Sorry to bust your balls, but you need a man in your life to do so. That was a pun incase it didn't sounded funny. It did to me.

As already said, depending on the part of California you'll be fine. SF Bay Area, LA greater area and most of the Central Valley and their neighboring regions: no problem. Up North or in the Sierra's... eh.
Primacy HP are Grand Touring Summer tires designed for luxury cars to balance performance longevity and fuel economy. Default factory choice on Audi, Lexus, Mercedes etc. and they are quite expensive to buy brand new for the stock size at ~$700/set. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...del=Primacy+HP |
