The other night I was simply cruising from light to light. There was a late model Mercedes Benz that pulled up next to me and gunned it. I’m talking tires screeching etc. I was so confused. People should know what an 86 looks like by now and that it isn’t very fast. They probably thought it was a Supra or something that’s actually fast, idk. This happens a lot to me, even a Jeep Renegade tried to race me once.

Yep. I've parked it in front of the same building for the last 6 years, with the same 100 or so people working in the building and I still get questions on occasion about "what car is that"?

Had a LOUD & modified 350Z try to race my FRS at a stoplight. He rolled down the windows to talk to me but I ignored him.
Once the light turned green, he launched and cut me off, not realizing that there was a local police officer in his patrol car right behind him. He was pulled over within seconds. |

Some people get spirited driving and some don't. Feels great to run beside a Genesis Coupe down the highway with no competition, but it's annoying to have Camaros match your speed and punch it. Loving the car scene in Houston and loving my BRZ even more. It brings me so much joy just revving it up and pushing her to her limits with every drive. So yeah there are people that will try to race, but I just mind my business and enjoy my car for what it is

I LOVE this. Only had it happen once, when some idiot pulled something similar and cut me off and was immediately pulled over, but it was GREAT to see an officer fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time. A few weeks ago I was driving south on 81 in NY and I saw a Dodge Challenged, I mean Challenger, up ahead of me slow down to about 55 (speed limit was 65). Figured it was an elderly person or someone unfamiliar with the area and trying to figure out of they needed the next exit or not, so I pulled into the passing lane doing my usual 66 and ambled past them then returned to the right lane. A few minutes later, the Dodge pulled up next to me in the passing lane and just stayed by my side for a minute or two. I never look over when that happens, just 'cause I simply don't care, but figured that maybe they were just trying to see what kind of car I was driving because they are still not real common around here. Then... sigh... the usual... he took off like a rocket. I could just barely see his backwards ball-cap on his way-too-cool slouching body sticking about his headrest. Hope he had fun. Would have liked to have seen an officer in the vicinity then. I watched him cut off quite a few people w/ abrupt lane changes and no signaling as he disappeared into the future.

While not a "come race me bro" I did get reminded today that V8s still exist. I was turning a corner rather in a spirited driving sort of way after a light and a blue Mustang with white racing stripes was coming the other way. He revved his engine at me, to supposedly let me know there was something pulling along his over heavy chassis.
I just kept on going. The thing is, I have driven Mustangs and even a Z06 Corvette, and none of them are quite like the FR-S. The Mustang was a bit too soft on the suspension at higher speeds. The Corvette, while nice... seemed to be a little to laid back in the driving and odd stick placement. Docdoc

Yea i just had a dude a few hours ago in a WRX try showing off at a light when i pulled up next to him, i was just out taking a cruise on a summer like day in the middle of March, and got some groceries on my way home. As soon as the light turned green he just had to gun it and try to impress me along a stretch of highway that is well known for armed revenue generators trying to extort money out of us hard working Americans, like really dude? You think i'm gonna risk a hefty ticket and points on my CDL? F**k outta here, i'd smoke him around the corners anyway, a straight WRX isn't that impressive and they are overweight, they'd never pull curves like our cars can. I've had quick cars my whole life and i've never felt the need to "prove" myself to others. But what he didn't know is my FRS isn't stock, lol. Oh well what can u do?

On my way home via the interstate, I was approaching a two-lane sweeper that I know quite well, and this Dodge Charger SRT 392 breezes by me on the inside lane as we approach the turn.
I just replaced my Primacies with some Pilot 4S' so I was comfortable with my (new) entry speed. Clearly the Charger was not as he starts braking before the road curves... now I'm ahead of him and executing the turn effortlessly without any drama from the new Michelins. Upset that he couldn't keep up in the bends, he catches up to me in the straights, and lines up next to me in order to try and flex his 485hp / 4400lb cruise ship combo. I don't fall for the bait, so I give a little squeeze on the Brembos, tuck in behind him, set the cruise at the speed limit, and proceed to sip on my bubble tea. My strange flex, but it was pretty sweet. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29sfZ1M0JE0[/ame]

High horsepower muscle cars are joyless cars. All you get to enjoy are the first 3-4 seconds of acceleration off the line then it's back to boredom again unless you want to lose your license. Any sensation of speed is removed when you car weights 4000lbs. It's like riding a 747, sure you are going 700mph but you don't feel any of it. I rather drive a true light weight sports car and than have a car that impresses on paper. That's probably why you see more of more of people driving muscle cars rev their engine... they are probably frustrated
