The Japanese version has different rates. The spring rates you mention are broadly in line. |

Ohlins DFV BTO (Built to Order) are specific to Japan and they are built locally (including the housing) but use Swedish internals and valved differently. Source: I used to own the Japanese Ohlins PCV. |

Ok thanks fellas. Just gotta make sure when time comes to get right specs as they're different at most vendors.

Yeah the "Swedish" and "Japanese" Ohlins have been a little different for the last couple years and we've been getting the Swedish stuff. It's an improvement for us IMO.

Update: will be installing this week but I noticed several errors in the instructions, the most important of which is lack of instruction to install the brake lines. Not a big deal but it seems like the instructions came out of Japan (flange was spelled "frange")
I'm not doing a complete writeup but I'll address the parts of the installation that may be unconventional compared with other suspension kits. -alex |

What's the gap difference? You can remedy with more tire. The gap on my FR-S looks less apalling with the R-S3s.

In reality it's actually lowered about 0.75", however it's so subtle most people won't notice. The wheels will go on shortly as I'm putting some miles on the suspension to get them to settle more.
Will play around with the height later. One thing's for sure: these are not coilovers you can slam the car with. -alex |

I am glad they don't market them accordingly.

Yeah, max is about 1.5" that you can lower. Maybe close to 2" if you preload the springs.
I prefer it this way, to be honest. -alex |

First impressions: on 10 clicks (out of roughly 20, would be considered "semi-aggressive street dampening"), the car rides better than stock. What I mean is, the suspension moves less but with way better rebound control. I drove several streets today (to/from work, as well as other streets I frequent on a daily/weekly basis), and the car is magnitudes better than stock in terms of damper control and ride quality.
Makes me wonder if Toyota/Subaru even spent as much time dialing in the shocks as they claim to have done... or if the FRS factory shocks are better? Hmm, thoughts to ponder. Will let it break in for a week or two, then get it aligned at @Evasive Motorsports... Randy, tell Daryl to get ready for me!! Oh, I also put the wheels on... I will play around with the suspension height, probably going to lower it another 10-15mm to get a better overall look. -alex |
