Basically to put down money and get a faster version of our cars as if Toyota/Subaru made them
Yes there's a way. Build your engine fully, block and heads, by a reputable shop.

turbo it, add the correct high quality supporting mods, and you'll be good.

We're talking about $20K+ Washington's

Suby cars as a majority are turbo'd and this car was intended for modding.
Toyoda laughed at this question according to a number of articles so I'm sure it'll go up a bit (at least the way the article was written).
@Bonburner
I have seen a number of people mention this but with no conclusive argument.
Why do you say the twins were I tended to be modded?
Did someone research this? Or the manufacturers said it?

Search, this has been beat to death...250-285 whp is fine with a good tune/intercooling/ and an oil cooler...

I think this is based on empirical evidence. From the factory it seems like this platform was not meant to go FI. Case in point sealed engine bay and heat issues.
Check this video out:

This guy had a lot of early adopter issues which are not surprising. Sticking with proven and mature kits is the way to go at this point since several exist now.

The other issues, like heat management, are common to most (all?!) cars with aftermarket boost since no NA car is designed for boosting.

I have a huge issue with his whole outlook on the situation.

He made it a point to be the "first" and to be an early adopter but he wasn't willing to deal with issues that came up because it was uncharted territory.

Also a lot of his leaks are from things that he modified so if you cant blame the car for your mistakes.

I have had this question lately also.

I have been considering adding FI to my car. but for me, its my daily driver and reliability (as in, longevity of the car) is important to me.

I want something to add decent boost but not risk damage to the engine.
What kits do you think meet this criteria?

From the research I did, the JR kit seems well sorted.
Check the owners thread for details about issues.
Also don't take anything at face value. Give it some thought.

What is your budget? that's a huge part of the equation. If money isn't an issue, get a fully built engine THEN add FI to maximize reliability. And there's not really any kit that will not risk your engine. That just comes with the territory. What's your definition of decent boost? Do you prefer turbo or SC?

However, it seems AVO and JR have put out solid products and have extensive owners pages that detail potential issues. Like @yamrossi mentioned, check the owners pages and investigate what's right for you.

You should check out the HKS V3 GT Supercharger kit if you are looking for reliability!

We have had this kit installed for 21,000 miles on our odometer, in which the V3 S/C kit has been installed for! We have drifted, raced, cross countried, and even driven in the worst season of all (Winter) and it has not missed a beat yet!

If you would like more information do let me know!!
Cheers,
James

It's an attack of the super chargers. I swear, someone's says reliable, everyone starts dropping the SC pitch :P

Factory engine, 7psi and good tune. The boost greed gets more turbo people than SC because we have so much more damn headroom.

This was some of the articles published prior to the release of the twins .. there were a lot of interviews going on with toyota and subaru.
The head honchos of the project released a lot of promising news

my current .. picture of the twins is they are not as durable as I had hoped .. probably due to the low weight focus

if you want to find the articles you'll have to dig around the archives of pre release ... including several years prior to the release - there was a lot of press around the twins

Have yet to see a single failed FA20 running a CARB legal kit and tune, I keep posting this hoping someone will prove me wrong so I'm not blowing $5k in a few years doing this, a reliable 50% increase in power (either wheel [160 to ~240whp] or crank [200 to ~290-300]) that I can DIY install and pass emissions testing worry free sounds like a dream. Some bitch about $/hp tradeoff being pretty poor but in the context of the real world (not armchair quarterbacking) the package is pretty damn attractive.
