Damn this car would be in the upper 5 secs range if they had geared it right...like shift to 62 MPH in the top of 2nd gear. Oh well.

The point of the 5-60 test is to show real world acceleration. Unless you drop the clutch or slip it from high RPMs at every red light the 5-60 time is more relative to the real world driving experience/acceleration.

Small displacement NA motors are always horrible in 5-60 tests because of the lack of low end torque.

However, the number is also somewhat pointless as if you aren't attempting to drive as fast as possible you tend not to care about getting to 60 quickly either.

I don't do it all the time.

But if I want to accelerate quickly, I don't lug the engine.

Why isn't there any acceleration testing for the Automatics?

It makes me wonder if there's a suspension tuning difference between transmissions.

That is simply not true.
They're referring to the engineering behind the car being Subaru's i.e. choosing the parts, the feel, the setup, etc. They're not saying every part is literally from Subaru's parts catalog.

Lots of snarky replies are on tap for a response to this, but in all likelihood you can simply add .5 to 1 second to the manual's times to sixty and the 1/4 mile respectively given the significantly taller gearing of the auto and its slight weight disadvantage. Mind you auto buyers will be laughing at the gas station.

Ummm... yes they are, and they deserve to be called on it. Shows a real butt-kissing, fanboi mentality on the part of the C/D writer. Or else he is just too lazy to spend 10 minutes chasing down the facts.

If you are having your mid life crisis now the boxter. If it's coming later, the toyobaru.
