Is the e85 NA enough to outrun anything strictly streetwise? There was some kid out here in palm beach who had some ecutek system running e85 and went on about how his setup was so fast, and then some kid with a stock 2000 Civic DX walked it. with 6k, why wouldn't you 2jz swap the car, and get a reliable powerhouse of an engine compared to the FA20, at least in my opinion, I could be misinformed. If anything, turbo'ing this car would be the way to go, buy one of those many premade kits if you have no idea what you're doing.

Regardless, still a stupid desire.

The best way to be "faster than a Mustang" is to choose your course and learn how to drive fast at the limit.

Otherwise, challenging a completely different category of car in the area it excels in while in your car's literal weakest point is a foolish and inane endeavor.

You're not going to get a good bump in power without compromising what the car already provides unless you're willing to dump some serious cash or are extremely familiar with the subject, which you have stated you are inexperienced. In the case that you lose what the car provides, why did you buy this car in the first place?

Shoulda shelled out the extra 15 grand and gotten an M2/M235i if you wanted cornering as well as drag racing prowess.

And really, besides on a track, how often do you actually redline shift your car?

I understand now, I really do love this car so I will start moving my mindset towards the handling which is supposedly why I wanted this car.

Just drop a 2JZ-GTE with the stock twins in it and call it a day.

One: forget drag racing. If a V6 Camry pulls up next to you, they *could* take you - BUT they won't 99% of the time. Why? Bc they're not flooring it when the light turns green.

You want the car to be reliable? More power means more stress on everything from the engine to trans and clutch to rear end. You're not going to get STi like thrust from this car without major modding.

Best use of cash: OFT tune and header. You'll pick up a few hp but also lose the torque dip. Car will be slightly faster. Upgrade to sticky tires - carry more speed in cornering and have more grip off the line. You can probably do an E85 tune with the header and gain a few more hp. Again, not going to have that *turbo just kicked in!* thrust of the STi.

Optional use of $6k: Buy a used 2002 WRX that has been modded with a better turbo and tune. Should have 300hp on a ticking time bomb (abused engine), but you'll get that speed you are looking for. Note - the car will NOT corner like the BRZ, but you'll be fast.

Bad use of $6k: a cheap turbo or supercharger setup without all the supporting mods. Car might be fast at times. Car might break.

Best idea: use all the power you have. Red line shifting? Yes - when you need to. Keep that engine on boil and use all those 200 ponies. If you shift at 5k rpm and then complain your car needs more power, you're missing the next 2,400 rpms the engine has to offer.

Err, v6 mustang and camaro will slaughter the twins on a road track as well (I think they beat the m235 as well?).

The strong point of the twins is fun, that is what you should be optimizing.

Go to the track and drive, lap times aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Spend $ on brakes, and any left over spend on tires and track time.

I've read getting some UEH, new exhaust and a tune will give you Enugu to be happy. Which is what I'm waiting for.

Yea I think this is a case of managing expectations and you do that by comparing to other cars in your class. See the brz for its charms.

Anytime I take a person for a test drive I say "this car wasn't meant to go straight, it was meant to go sideways".. And proceed to blow their mind. Just the other day a kid said " life changing experience"...

As others said start with: header and tune + e85.
