And if your out that way, id hit up the tail of the dragon in TN/NC as well. its worth the trip. Williamsburg is a good place to go as well. Lots of neat things around there and good food. My in laws love Captain George's (www.captaingeorges.com/). They "force" me and my wife to go whenever they visit lol. I would say the perfect time to come would be mid to late June or early July.
Is Rudee's still around? That place was great.

I can help you out with the Southwest VA stuff. You might look into crossing over to Gatlinburg TN and Deals Gap for the tail of the dragon while you're in the area (if you hit SW VA). It's the most recognized mountain drive that I could think of.

Also, eastern VA humidity is terrible. All summer, imo. I lived in Richmond (about an hr or so from VA beach) for about 3 years. Humidity was equivalent to the levels in South Carolina from June - Sept.

humidity isn't any worse than japan. lived in yamaguchi for three years and va climate is pretty similar.

Good to know. I miss that kind of humid. Where I live right now, it's so framing dry, it sucks

I'm going to pitch my hometown of Nelson County VA. You like mountains/scenery? My recommended trip takes you down Skyline Drive starting at Front Royal and ended at the Blue Ridge Parkway (same road, only Skyline Drive is in Shenandoah National Park). You can keep going along Blue Ridge Parkway for awhile, but you'll have been in the car for like 3.5 hours at that point and probably looking for a break. Like beer? Nelson County has awesome craft breweries (Blue Mountain Brewery being my favorite- just voted best brewpub in VA by RateBeer.com). Like wine? Nelson County has like a dozen wineries. Wintergreen Resort is nearby if you like golf or any of the numerous other activities available.
