So another little suspicion I have is that the top of my fuel pump was not properly seated inside the housing. The Deatschwerks install kit comes with 3 o-rings that go on the pump outlet nipple, which makes a seal when you shove it up into the housing. When i took mine apart the first time, the pump just kind of fell out. When I put it back together yesterday, I lubed up the o-rings with some petroleum jelly and really push it into the housing to make sure it seated properly.

I'm going to try to find a replacement c-clip before putting it back together then I'll report back if it changed anything.

I found my problem.

The video I used as a installation guide for the pump used the "3 O-ring" method instead of reusing the spacer. The result is that over time the o-rings pushed out of the housing and caused an internal leak. This resulted in both the siphon not working (9 gallon empty) and an occasional hard start issue.

I have reinstalled the spacer (with a slit to accommodate the DW300c ridges) and 2 new o-rings. All seems well so far.

yea, for now I think we can point toward an improper seal at top of the pump. Thanks for helping me figure this out!
