Unhappy Paint/Detailing Experts I need your help!

Ok basically I found my cat laying on the roof of my car and upon further inspection their seems to be some type of "smudge/waterspot/whatever the heck it is thing" that is just impossible to remove. I hope to god that my paint/clear coat isn't damaged

I've tried Meguiars Ultimate compound, Meguiars Gold Class car wash shampoo, And Meguiars Ultimate Quik wax. NOTHING WORKS. Also when feeling the "smudges/spots" I can't feel anything at all, if anything the paint feels extremely smooth to the touch with no ill effects at all, I cant even feel it with my nail at all. Also when the spot is wet there is no sign of it but when it dries it shows again.

PLEASE HELP ANYONE! ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!

Try claybar with some spray wax for lubrications then follow up with a light polish. Should get the marks off for ya.
Remember to wax after, Clay and polish will remove wax.

^This. I had a large scratch from what I assumed was a tree branch or something during the wind storm we had last week. Fortunately I wax my car every few washes, so all I had to do was clay bar it, buff it out a bit, and then wax the car. Sure my car has a few small nicks here and there, but for a 4 month old car it still looks brand new from normal viewing distance thanks to the wax

Thanks man! So all I need is a claybar and wax correct? Could you expand a little more on the polishing part? So basically I wet car area then apply spray wax for lubrication then I apply the clay bar to the car? How do you go about the polishing part? Sorry just want to have my bases coverered to have the best results.

What it looks like you're dealing with is clear coat etching.
To polish it out you'll need a polish (NOT wax). Polish makes the paint shiny and wax keeps it shiny.
I like Meguiars line of products but there are so many choices out there. Pretty much any polish will do the trick as long as you follow the instructions on the bottle.

I could explain all the claying and polishing in a long winded post but if you go to youtube and do a quick search theres tons of videos on claying and polishing. Once you see it done a couple times you'll be ready to dive right in.

Good luck!

So I finally attempted to get this etching off aaaaaaanddddd......

SUCCESS!!

Polishing did the trick but heres the steps I used:

Steps I did:
1). Meguiars SMOOTH SURFACE™ CLAY KIT (Comes with 2 Clay bars, 1 Quik Detailer, and 1 Micro Fiber towel.
a. Apply Quik Detailer to section
b. Kneed Clay bar to a flat small pancake
c. Apply Clay bar to section
d. Wipe dry with supplied Micro fiber towel(Repeat a to d, multiple times)
2). Nu Finish Car Polish (Liquid type)
a. Apply polish to a applicator pad.
b. Apply applicator pad to section and use small circular motion on area
c. Wipe with Micro fiber towel(Repeat a to c until desired result)
3). Apply wax

Thanks everyone! @Kotu100 I can't thank you enough

Awesome!!
In the future try to remove the contaminants as soon as possible. The longer it sits on the paint the more damage it does.

This is something a machine polisher needs to fix.

OP do you own a DA polisher?

Nanoskin Autoscrub Sponge or Towel (a claybar alternative).... it can even cut right through auto-paint overspray

Made my 10+ year old Tacoma (24/7 outdoors too) look like a show car and is now shinier than all the mercs and bimmers around here lol.
