You can always try giving them an ultimatum prior to resigning. Worst that can happen is your out the door which you would be doing anyways. It rarely works but, can show the gravity of a situation to someone that is absent minded.

Being miserable every day due to others constantly sucks. Wish I could give some advice but, I don't have any despite being in a similar situation. For the past 6 months or so I show up, put in my headphones and just work. Often without a word.

honestly, pay isn't everything. you might take a pay cut to work anywhere else, but if the work environment is twice as nice as where you're at, i consider that a positive change.

a constant negative work environment really screws up your health for a very long time.

The question is whether he is actually a wack job or just plays one on TV. He could very well go home after work everyday and say "I don't believe people still believe this shit" while wading through the piles of cash it has made him.
