Key points i dont like
1. Says motor is setting ahead of front axle. I am hoping for a more mid engine ish like a s2k or FD
2. Says "Successor to the mr2"- No. not close.
3. Says hood and front end are a bit boring?!?! It looks mean as hell to me.

That is all.

Hmm, I really have to wonder if this guy researched that 1950's car more than the FT-86 to create this article.(thanks for posting it btw) Yeah, Im sure toyota chose this name to pay homage to the top speed of some antique from a different continent, not the essence of one of their past models that share the same number.

But that engine location bit is interesting in that such a layout would allow subaru to implement their AWD system in the car.

This guy needs to be introduced to something called relevance.

The Jowett pioneered nothing as the only other car that used this layout prior to the ft-86 was the 1962/1965-1969 Toyota sports 800. It's like saying the British pioneered the journey to the new world... except that nobody followed.

His information with respect to the concept is lacking, and it is ludicrous that he thinks the production version will be called the FT-86 (or that it has something to with the Jowett's top speed..... seriously?!?)

Other than that, it was a nice read, but I expected better from an established auto journalist.

My $0.02

For real. Surely he must know the FT = Future Toyota and is just a concept moniker they frequently use? I mean it is common info spread around this forum and this guy is supposed to be an expert.

What a tool.

MR2 = Mid-engine RWD 2-seater.

Based on what we know, the FT is only one of those.

Although:
If they move the motor behind the front axles, they could legitimately claim it's a (front-) midship engine.
Who knows what the rear seats will be like?

Sure but the RX rotary cars have their engines behind the front axle and no matter what Mazda might claim, they are traditionally viewed as FR (albeit very well balanced FRs).
