Yep, we are having a "heat wave" here ...... 92 degrees ....... and the locals are cooking .....

So, we're off to a park for the 1 year old granddaughter's birthday party. Well, at least it's not raining.

I'd rather be napping ......

92 isn't bad. What makes it gross is the 40% humidity.

I'm bored, so here's a 9.3.6 home theater with Dolby Atmos. The room dimensions are 21'x14'x8'. The two subwoofers cleverly disguised as a sofa table would be tuned for midbass and placed nearfield right behind the sofa, to give you that "shot in the chest" feeling when a guy in the movie gets shot in the chest. The main subs are the two refrigerators up front in the LLT boxes. The two small sealed subs at center back are for balancing, to even out nulls. The last picture has the screen wall, acoustically transparent screen, and masking panels as well. All speakers are DIY or AIY. All boxes are built correctly and properly braced, with correct airspace and port volumes per WinISD. Pre-cut boxes are built to spec. All speaker placement is in accordance with Dolby's published parameters for a 9.1.6 Atmos room. Suggested power is 2K watts each for the two front and two rear subs and 500 watts each for the two nearfields. LCR would get 750 each. All other surrounds would get 200 each. Total power is 13650 watts.

And that doesn't even consider stage, riser, acoustic treatment, hvac, or soundproofing. That's literally just the boxes for the speakers.

Meh. Doesn't look likely to go very low, but should have a great soundfield if the designs are any good. Hard to tell. You building this?

It's amazing what a good 7.2 setup can do... House curve truly flat to 16Hz and I only seem to have trouble getting sound right over/under where I sit plus a bit around that. Hobbies... I have a few.

I'm not building it. I'd like to, but if I'm going to go that detailed then I want to do it right. My wife made the point that theaters don't add a lot of value to a home and do take away at least a bedroom, so I don't have a house to build in. I also have other things that need my money more than this does. I'll stick with my plain old 7.1 and a tv, although I'll be upgrading the speakers and tv when I get home. And I'll add a few absorption panels and maybe some diffusion panels, but nothing like a full acoustic design.

I know you're familiar with all the speakers; we have the same other hobby. The subs are 2x HST18, 2x HST12, and 2x pa460. The HSTs should be able to go as low as I want them to. I was thinking about putting the 12's in their own boxes to place separately, but I'm not that invested. All the speakers are from DIYSG. Titans up front, htm-10 for surround with custom boxes for the wides, and volt 8 for ceiling.

I'm really only messing with it because I'm deployed, on my day off, and bored. Sketchup is fun.

What is there to not get? Doesn't everybody garnish their drinks with mummified body parts?

It is the Yukon so that is one of the least strange if their traditions.
