Bought a car sportier than my BRZ

https://www.inokinetic.com/consignme...05-lotus-elise

Pretty excited. The brz is still stock (including tires) so its hard to compare really since the grip levels are so far that i havent really pushed the elise as far as a spirited commute can even squeeze out of the brz. The elise is really a much better sports car but I am left with an appreciation for how fun the brz is while being so compromised with its objectives.

I saw an Elise on my commute once. They took off so fast from a stop light it was like I was driving a Prius.

Very nice Elise. I'm torn between one of these and the Veloster N.

Thanks guys. Its my second car. All the cliche junk people say about cars makes a lot of sense. It is surely something special. The big take away is how close the brz can come, not in terms of performance or even feel but in how much the car just lets you drive it without any resistance.

On a cool side note, I bought it from a pretty big shop in the lotus car world (and they deal with some pretty silly cars) and we ended up talking about how good a car the brz is as i had it parked next to a lotus elise cup 260, ariel atom, ariel nomad, bac mono, and a drakan spyder. Objectively left in the rear view but subjectively nipping at the heels.

Inokinetic is a reboot of Sector111. The owners are awesome. Buying from them can't be a bad move, congrats! I have some of their Alfa 4C parts.

You probably want some oiling mods on that if you want to take turns quickly, because 2ZZs can oil starve even in the Celica GT-S on street tires. Aftermarket oil pan gives you some extra buffer before the pump sucks air and goes boom. Also the stock oil coolers makes the oil take a while to warm up which increases wear, maybe consider switching to a water/oil heat exchanger since it sounds like the radiator has been upgraded. That would also eliminate the really long oil lines. Guys on Spyderchat who track 2ZZs a lot say the valves are weak so don't take too many excursions above 8000rpm, stay below that if driving at a track.

The good thing is, you can get a low mileage used 2ZZ for only 1200 bucks if it comes to it, so that's nice.

Congrats on the car though, it's awesome. I am hoping the new one supposedly coming in 2020 is good so that I can buy one. I'm hoping they think a tad bit more about the practicality for the new version, because the Elise just has no space at all. The way the front radiator is ducted is a huge waste of space (the aerodynamics of the car aren't even good), and I don't think it would have hurt to have 3 inches more rear overhang for a bigger compartment in the back. Hopefully with more money to spend on R&D now they'll be able to work out a more efficient and aerodynamic design. Porsches have curved ducts to the radiators which vent next to the wheels, leaving a lot of space for luggage. They actually have the battery and a lot of other junk sitting in the front so it's possible to have a luggage bin close to that size on an Elise. The MR2 Spyder vents downward which can work well aerodynamically too if the ducting is done right, and with a wide, angled radiator, it could leave ample space.

Newer Toyota motors have better oil control, so while there probably won't be another 2ZZ like high revving engine, maybe they'll include something that is a solid starting point for a built motor that can be taken to 8000+rpm for glorious sound.

Elise was my dream car for a while. I'd freak out over body damage.

I went to buy an Exige before looking at an FRS. Got in it, almost couldn't get out. Asked myself if I wanted to go through that every time I drove the car. Awesome car, the Elise also.

I wanted an Elise ever since they brought it to the US. Body repair cost steered me away, since I would daily drive it. When I read about the FR-S/BRZ, I knew it would be a better option for me.

Congrats on the new toy!
