When I remove the spring my first thought was to cut it down to about 1/3 of it's original length so it would be long enough to provide some tension while the pedal is at the top position, but short enough so it didn't assist with pedal effort. Then I thought I had a short spring in the draw. The spring is only about 1/4" in diameter and about 3/8-1/2" long. It is just long enough to provide a little bit of pressure so the pedal doesn't sag. The first 1/2'' of pedal travel is softer with the main spring removed. Did anybody else consider cutting down the spring or inserting a smaller spring? See pic.

After owning my car for 3 years, I decided to finally do this mod. I should have done it a long time ago, I like the pedal feel alot better and i'm sure driving will be smoother shifting between 1st gear to 2nd gear. Anybody on the fence should quit waiting and do this mod. It is not that hard to do.

haha I don't have the tools and I don't wanna fuck anything up but I really want this done.

If you want to put the spring back in the best way I found was to compress the spring in a vise and use some safety wire wrapped around it twice on two sides you don't even need to compress it all the way for it to fit back in place eaisely I tired some heavy duty zip ties the kind with the metal tang and they kept breaking.

I used zip ties and vice too. Worked AOK.

I tried a lighter spring I had and did not like it I might try without sometime. But I have a repaired knee and I am old :-)

Had some noise, vibration in clutch pedal. Wanted to see if it was related, although I was sure it was being transmitted thru pedal and coming from elsewhere else.

So rather than delete the spring all together, I installed an Mtec clutch spring today. I just like the idea of a smoother pedal return and as some have referred to it, no slop at the top. Great product, best of both worlds - I think anyway. I can now feel the clutch... little heavier pedal but with smooth return and positive engagement. Win win.

I have the two shift springs by them and a Perrin rear shift rod bushing in my garage slated for install next.
