I don't see the 981 depreciating that much unfortunately. I wish, because when I was shopping there wasn't even an affordable 987.2 around here.

Well, it'll depend both on how much they depreciate and how my finances look at the time. Regardless though, they're all fun cars

That is exactly what my last GTO was built for. I wanted something that would eat up highway miles, be fun to run up and down a canyon, and would fly under the radar.

LS2+T56=25mpg highway, 27 if you actually do the speed limit.
GMM Shifter + Hurst stick and ball in a trans full of Amsoil actually felt like a well oiled Remington 700 bolt once it warmed up.
Full suspension (shocks, springs, bushings, sways).
5000k HIDs in the factory halogen projectors were plenty bright, didn't glare nearly enough to ever get me brighted even aimed almost perfectly level out of the car.
Looks like a Cavalier/G5/G6/Grand Prix/Grand Am/Impala/Cobalt.
Silver. Silver cars attract no attention ever.
Big comfy front seat. Big back seat (it was like business class back there) excellent visibility all around.

Without the tint (windows and fogs), my car was completely forgettable. I was about to replace the fender badges with Monaro sidemarkers and the rear bumper insert with a black painted filled one so it wouldn't even say GTO anywhere on it.

This is easy... Nothing like a classy looking E39 M5, the best sports saloon ever.

@2013GTRNate nope, it's way beyond the $40k budget. And if you mean older models, those are out too because they'll definitely get a ticket (and maybe impounded?) it caught blasting through the night.
@LSxJunkie cool setup! Yes, I bet that definitely didn't attract much attention. With a quiet exhaust those can be sneaky.
@strat61caster great point about wagons. We had those when I was young. SUV's are for the birds!

I love a good wagon. I am thinking a Volvo wagon, with turbo setup, or V8 swap, would be a great answer to this question. I like the old 740 wagons.

Yeah I'd definitely go with a used E43 M3 or E39 M5 if you want the best bang for the buck for highway and twists, but if you get pulled over... welp GG

If your looking for something more.... well descret, a Golf R or 335i would be PLENTY to get the job done. Lord I've become a BMW fanboy lol

3rd gen Acura TL Type-S. It's what we ride down in going to NC to my buddies lake house. 6 hour trip. Mostly highway, with some fun back roads at the end. It's a perfect car for our journey.

Lightly used Audi S4. It's got refinement, luxury, comfort, power, and it's relatively fuel-efficient.

LSA CTS-Vs get horrendous gas mileage.
