Saboteurs dumped up to 40 litres of oil on the road in the Royal National Park.

Hey guys

Just saw this. I am shocked. I usually hit the RNP once a week and most of the time at night.

If I caught anyone doing this, I would run them over ! Not with the 86, would run them over with the good old Falcon basher.

IN SECONDS, two cars were written off and one damaged after 40 litres of oil was apparently thrown across a road in the Royal National Park.
Police believe saboteurs dumped up to 40 litres of oil on a dangerous bend on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, near the Warumbul Road turn-off, late on Saturday evening.
''Whoever did this is someone who doesn't care about other people's lives,'' said Inspector Rod Rae, of Sutherland Police.
''I'd throw everything at them; everything short of attempted murder. We could have lost a couple [of lives].''

The driver and passenger of one of the cars, which was written off, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A second car was written off, while the third had only slight damage.
The road was closed for three hours while detectives investigated and sand was spread to soak up the oil.
''You can see where the oil has been thrown,'' said Inspector Rae. ''They have done it very intentionally. I can't think of any other reason to do this other than to cause someone grief.''
Later in the morning a motorcyclist also lost control on the sand-covered oil but escaped injury.
Shortly before the multiple accidents, which happened about 11.25pm, one witness was nearly forced off the road by a car that was part of a convoy of about 15 high-performance cars entering the area.
''I had to swerve off the road,'' said the man, who did not wish to be named. ''I was going to turn around and chase them but I wouldn't have been able to remember which one it was.''
One theory is that the oil might have been placed by car enthusiasts who have long used the Royal National Park as a night-time venue for illegal drag racing and drifting.
However, Inspector Rae said it was unlikely drifters were responsible.
''This is not a common thing for drifters to do,'' he said. ''They don't need to do that. They drift without oil.''
The chief executive of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS), David Morgan, condemned anyone using public roads for ''sport''.
''By its very definition, motor sport is conducted in a controlled environment at venues that have been selected and developed with safety as our paramount concern,'' he said. ''CAMS does not condone inappropriate or irresponsible driving behaviour on public roads, and such activity should be dealt with appropriately by authorities.''

HOW DARE THEY TRY POINT THE FINGER ON DRIFTERS!

it would be suicidal and an airhead for a drifter to try drifting in oil.

One theory for drifters is to put oil in RNP so they can drift? LOL whoever came up with that theory needs to be shot. What idiot will do that? All things aside I hope they catch these people and throw them in prison

Complete and utter stupidity!
To say drifters poured the oil is rediculous, we all know it was the LAN-EVOS! (initial D reference)

I couldn't agree more Jani! I regularly drive that road in my Cappuccino. If I hit something like that in that car....no chance I am coming out of it a live or without serious injury. No idea what posses someone to do such a retarded thing. Lucky no one was serious hurt and lucky it wasn't a family traveling to their home or holiday house at Bundeena.

Whoever wrote that article is just retard and does have a brain between their ears.

Yeah, it was a pretty lame written article. Something very serious but funny that the 2nd half of the story, is just talking about the drifters. Don't they have a think and do a bit of research before they write these... ?

Wouldn't be surprised if it was some young kids stoned off their faces, thinking it was a bit of fun.
@Cappuccino Cappuccino would be demolished and so would you... Well most cars would at 80km/h around a bend straight into a tree. You got roll bars on it ?

reminds me of the time in Initial D when the Evo thugs (Not the Emperors, the Stage 4 clowns) dump oil on the track to wreck Keisuke's FD.

Three cars crash after oil poured on road - Royal National Park

Sunday, 21 October 2012 04:58:39 AMPolice are conducting investigations into what caused three cars to crash in the Royal National Park last night.About 11:25pm, Saturday 20 October 2012, three cars were travelling east along Sir Betram Stevens Drive and navigating a sharp bend when they all lost control, left the road and crashed into trees.Police and paramedics attended the scene and the driver and passenger from one of the vehicles were taken by ambulance to St George Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The road was closed for more than three hours while all three vehicles were removed from the scene and examinations of the area conducted.Sutherland Police are investigating what caused the crashes and believe up to 40 litres of oil had been deliberately poured over a 100m stretch of the road near Warumbul Road.Sir Betram Stevens Drive has now been cleaned with a large amount of sand used to soak up the oil, however, police are warning motorists that the surface may still remain slippery and to exercise caution.Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact Sutherland Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

I think they might not be targeting other cars or even car groups but rather bikers.

We take our bikes through country roads on the weekends and have encountered mini sand dunes, oil, road rage from the locals there. We do ride very responsibly, especially through town centres and around local traffic but not everyone else does

To be honest, I can see where they are coming from. Id be pissed too if I lived in the countryside and had these bastards on their loud bikes and cars tearing though our local roads
