Looking to get a radar dectector and have no idea what is good, what is bad, what is even available.

We've owned both Whistler and Cobra both were accurate, easy to use, have slim profiles, have good suction mount systems, and have long enough wires to weasle through the dash (not using in the 86). Personally I liked the Cobra better because in situations of radar not perceived as "police" presence it only chimed once then it would just blink, the Whistler chimes the full duration until you're away from the source, although it might depend on the exact model.

Lots of good info here. No selling on this site, just info, reveiws and tips. Radar Roy's the man!
Not that I would ever get a radar detector, or Laser jammer here in Ontario as they are illegal here... ahem... cough.. cough.. kmph.ca... cough. Sorry, had something in my throat.

You will get a million different suggestions here .. I have used a couple most recent was the escort passport 9500ix, it has built in GPS so it's pretty accurate on "known" location .. Overall very good on the city and highway when it comes to radar detection .. But by the time it picks up laser it's too late , I got a ticket coz of it. I might buy the redline this time it seems to be a better choice for highway driving and real annoying in the city because it doesn't save locations like the 9500ix does

Valentine rocks for Ka detection... Laser is a bit trickier as youre pretty much picked off since they point it right at you.. Always use a bunny for laser bait.
