Watching this video again. That little e30 had a 24v swap. Thats not the exhaust note of an 160hp m20. Most likely an s50/52 with the power he had in the straights.

Wow! That's a lot of offs! Great videos though!

Now the email Luc sent out today regarding the rules change makes sense.

"Driver:

Thank you for coming to our BW event of last weekend. Weather was perfect but the driving was not as good, way too many offs.
It is a recurrent and very frustrating issue that only seems to happen at Buttonwillow.
Anyhow, we changed our black flag rule on Sunday pm from "3 strike you're out" to 1 black and you seat out the rest of the session.
Seems to have helped since we had noticeably less offs in the pm.
As always, comments/feedbacks, good and bad, are welcome.
See you at the track.
Dave, Luc and the NCRC crew."

I talked to Luc and Dave about this at the event. They say it is the SoCal people who go off at a much higher rate because their hpde organizations down there don't punish going off as severely as NorCal clubs do. "They train their hpde'ers that you are doing something wrong if you aren't going off once in a while."

No black flags for me all weekend!

soCal people are scarily aggressive... thats why people either total their car or lose bumper or ...

NCRC wants us to go home with a car in healthy condition.

Congrats to all 86s drivers this weekend... everyone drove their car home with just some dirts and 86s were happy

How many offs were there? Must have been a lot for them to implement that rule

There were quite a few on Saturday. I remember seeing 6-7 that day myself, and I know there were more than that since I missed seeing a few while off the track.

Prolly 6 or more offs per session. One 3-car accident in open (one lost a bumper, one lost the fron and one dent on the side).

Main problem is that when someone go off, they create a huge dust cloud or bring a lot of dirt onto the track. Both of which are terrible condition to drive on track (those dust clouds take a long time to settle at Buttonwillows)

With dirt and debris on track, NCRC would cut short session to clean up so its probably why they are quite strict about the multiple offs.

Buttonwillow seems to have more offs for everyone. Two of the three four wheel off events that I have had in the 35 days I've been on track (including two lemons racing days) were at Buttonwillow. I should add that I have only been to Button willow four times, so yeah, it attracts offs. Part of it I believe is the groups that run down there encourage people to push really hard (speed ventures was making a big deal of renting transponders to everyone, even first timers to the point that you felt silly not having one). Another part of it is that an off at Buttonwillow is really benign on most of the course. Also, the flat nature of the course combined with the easy run off makes people feel quite safe so they push harder (which sometimes has bad results).

Frankly I think it sounds like a fantastic thing that they cracked down on the people pushing too hard like that! I've seen it where it seems every minute or so someone is going off and those dust clouds can be crazy dangerous. I once saw someone eat the wall on the front straight after dropping two wheels on the outside. People were cruising through that dust completely lost, some people were passing other people with a point-by (in the cloud of dust); some people were nearly stopped because they couldn't see shit, all kinds of stuff just waiting to go from a bad day to a disaster.

Actually Yea now that I remember there were about 1 or 2 offs every session when I did bw. I even went off right before the s turns at 90mph.

Just to confirm this past 86Cup attendees (your initials): Sat --> JG, WW, KS. Sun --> KS, WW, GW. Anybody I missed?

And @sw20kosh, where in the world did you find the 5 sec difference between Saturday and Sunday? Dayum.

I know @CSG Mike was around and he did what he did. Any conflicts, let me know privately so that I can get the lap-by-lap results and dissect it. Otherwise, everyone posted some great best laps! Think of it as inspiration to what your car can do.

@mkivsoopra, being your first BW experience with susp issues, posting a 2:14 best lap is a great time. Watch out for him in the future. He's got the hp and he will find his balance soon enough.

Damn @garfull, you oughta just swap headlights and body kit between your Miata and FRS and join us . Better yet, I have spare headlights and taillights you can use
