A loud BRZ just drove through the parking lot where I work and a couple of my coworkers started talking about it. One of them commented that only the Subaru version got the boxer engine, the Toyota version didn't (they never could remember which one was BRZ, FRS, or 86). I had to educate them a bit.

A little, mostly because the comment was coming from someone who drove an RX7 for years who I thought would know better.

A normal fall/winter Saturday for me between the ages of about 8 and 12.
A couple of Saturdays a winter (when I was close enough to come help) until about age 50.
My dad heated the house with only a wood stove for most of his life. His last house of 30 years didn't even have a furnace in it.

Ya, I hear that. I heated a house in CT with nothing but an air tight insert in a fireplace, for two winters. The fireplace had a built in air blower and the insert had an internal blower.

During that time the only time I had to fire up the oil fired boiler to heat water for the baseboard heaters was when it reached -18 degrees F (no wind chill).

My sons and I would go pick up unsplit firewood in the areas being forested and haul it back home in a 1956 Ford PU. After the first year, I did rent a powered splitter to split the required 8 cords of firewood for the season.

It was one chore for the boys to keep the wood ring in the family room and the two wood rings on the deck filled from the wood piles down by the woods.

Good old days fer sure -

Tell him that opinions from someone who doesn't have the sense to drive a car with a proper engine are invalid. I'm pretty sure I have a reference in one of my textbooks.
