Grimmspeed front license plate relocator pushing down on bumper

So I'm very new to these forums and I've only owned the car for a week. I have a 2018 Toyota 86 GT Black. I've installed the relocation kit and the shaft is pushing down on the black part of the bumper (the strip above the grill), right below the tow hook receptacle/opening.

Is this normal? Do those of you who use the Grimmspeed kit shave down parts of the black plastic? I'll upload pictures when I get the chance in a bit.

I've tried searching the forums but couldn't find anything on this topic so I thought I'd start a new one. Thank you in advance.

Remove the Grimmspeed shaft then screw in your OEM tow hook found in the trunk with the jack stuff. (if the 2018's still have it)
Does that push down on the bumper? Is there a difference in the diameter of both shafts?

I know on the FT86SpeedFactory website it shows the new bumper style, but does it really fit without pushing down on the black part? I can't really tell from the pictures.

That's the first thing I did. The diameter between the two are about the same. It pushes down on the bumper slightly but not as much as the Grimmspeed does. If the shaft was only 4-6mm thinner, this wouldn't be an issue. I'm considering returning the Grimmspeed, shaving off part of the shaft/bolt where the bumper touches it, or cutting a small U on the black part of the bumper. I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this. I'm curious to know what others did for their car.

Just an FYI. I have the Turobxs plate re-locator and the shaft diameter is within thousandths of an inch of the OEM tow hook shaft, so it will touch as well.

Thanks so much for saving me the hassle, BirdTRD! I'm all out of options then. I'll probably buy another piece to cut a U-shape on and keep the original intact. My OCD won't forget that behind that license plate is a piece hanging.

You're right! I can kind of see it in one of the pictures now! Hmm... either I do that or buy another piece to cut a "U" out of to accommodate the shaft.

Would it be possible to just grind down some of the actual rod instead of messing with body pieces? I am not sure how much metal would need to be removed for it to fit right.

It's possible but I don't have the tools to pull it off. I'd have to rig something up and file it down while it's rotating on something. The thing is this kit cost me $90. If that black piece is cheaper, I'd rather buy that OEM piece and cut out the shape.

I used the same grimmspeed relocation mount on my 86 black edition, and I had it on my 15 fr-s with no problems. Adjust so the plate won't touch the bumper.

Let me know if you can find that black piece somewhere, Toyota's diagram for the from bumper doesn't seem to have it listed

It's not the plate touching the bumper. It's the main shaft/bolt pushing down on the bumper. See the pictures in my original post.
