Sold the BRZ after only 4 months...here's why.
...not that anyone really cares. I loved the BRZ. It was such a hoot to drive. But there were some things about it that drove me crazy, and I just couldn't get over. The car was so goddamn loud on the highway, Bluetooth was useless - nobody could understand me. Well I'll just crank the stereo, right? Quite possibly the worst stereo I've ever heard. Total distortion at volumes barely loud enjoy to hear the music. The touchscreen was awful. I had to stab at that thing so many times to get my fat fingers to choose the right preset. Ugh. Then the fuel pump crickets started. And the diff chatter when the car was cold drove me crazy too.
Plus, the desire to piss away money on mods was nearly overwhelming. But in the end, I had bought the BRZ to try and inject a little fun back into my drive, but a Ferrari couldn't make my commute fun. That, combined with the occasional need to stuff my kids in the back, just made a fuel-efficient sedan a better option. I had fun with BRZ - it's a great little car. Just not for me, not at this stage of my life. Enjoy your twins, and be sure to wring em out a bit for me! |

What made you think the brz would be a good car to commute on the highway with?

Lol. Troll. Not everyone likes the car, no big deal.
Sub-30k sports car is loud on the highway? Who would've thought? Things you would have noticed test driving the car or just checking reviews or forums first: -loud on Highway -crickets -diff chatter -fingers too fat for navi -crap stock stereo ... Wait, that appears to be everything you listed... You sir, need to go buy a M4 or S4. Seems like only cars of that class will satisfy your need for injecting some fun into your daily commute while still retaining the luxury you seem to be used to.

What did you buy after you sold the brz?
edit: To the guy above, the OP has had his account since 2010. So he must have been following the twins for a while. I don't think he's trolling. |

Meh, can't see that on tapatalk. Rest of post is still relevant thought. If he read forums, he would know of the issues, unless it was not a concern before for whatever reason.
You don't pick a really cheap or really expensive sports car for daily driving if you want comfort and luxury. Most middle market (read 60k range) cars however, should fit the bill. So OP, did you go back to a grocery getter, or did you get something to achieve your goals?

I mean, I can see that. I'm considering selling mine. Mainly for the reason of planning a move and not needing this car where I'm moving.
Although stock stereo isn't terrible in my opinion. I never had a problem with blue tooth. Everyone hears me just fine when I use it, which is daily. Loud on the highway I can understand as well as anybody adult or child sitting in the backseat. I will agree though with the touch screen. I have to push it 3-4 times before it does anything. Which is why I use an iPod if I even listen to music when I drive which hasn't been lately. |

Instead take the loss of an new car, you could just but a used luxury car for daily drive.

This car isn't for everyone.
I'll admit that there are times when I'm in the mood for a bigger vehicle so that: 1. I don't have to listen to my gf complain about getting in and out of my car in a dress or heels, 2. I could take my large dog to the park when it's just us two, 3. I don't feel like an ant on Texas highways waiting to be squashed by all the damn 18 wheelers, 4. I can have a fast ass 400hp daily driver for no reason other than to get speeding tickets, 5. I can pick up my friends or family from the airport without having to find my own friend to lend me their bigger car... There are a ton of things that we can all complain about...however I have a special bond with my car. It's my own. I'm sure people can list 5 things that they don't like about their kids, but that doesn't mean you trade them in for new ones. I made a commitment to my car. It may not be convenient for me to have a small ass car, but I'm willing to work around all of that in order to drive something I love. Good luck finding a car that fits all your needs.

Enjoy your 4-door OP, no amount of tail-happy, excellent-steering-feedback, track-ready-suspension, balanced-feeling... -ness of a car will replace the satisfaction of having the right car. Edit: To be perfectly clear, I'm entirely supportive of OP's decision, this car is by no means perfect and many have argued with valid points it's sub-par, doubly so if you need to transport more than two regularly. I actually agree with his critique. I thought the business stereo & standard speakers on my 1er was bad, then I got to play with the Alpine head unit shipped with the BRZ. Thankfully unlike my BMW the HU is a standalone thing so I'm getting the base stereo & know which HU I'll be buying. Yeah it isn't that practical or refined for long distance cruising but as this is replacing a Lotus Elise it manages to be a step or two up in both.
Anyway I thought this was more a "I tried it, liked it in some ways but really can't live with the car right now" |
