Removing Window Switch Plate

I've got kind of a rattle or buzz somewhere under the plastic plate that houses the power windows switches on the drivers side. It's most noticeable with the radio turned up and something is playing with an extra bit of bass.

I'm assuming there is something loose under the plate, or maybe a broken tab on the plate itself. I am trying to figure out a way to remove the plate without messing up the surrounding plastic to take a look underneath. I didn't want to just start prying under it with a flat blade screwdriver till I get some advice from someone that has already done it.

BTW it's a 2014 BRZ.

your best bet is to remove the door panel. from memory, there's phillips 2 screws under the door pull plastic that must be pulled off with a flathead, there's also a phillips head screw under a flip-over cover in the door release nook. and i want to say there's another exposed phillips head screw towards the hinge, up towards the top.

the rest should be snap clips, so it just needs some prying to pop them loose(i pry gently, and if it don't go, search for the screws i missed!), then pull the whole door panel up and out to fully release it from the door.

The window switches are a known issue. I took my whole door panel off and gorilla taped the spaces between the switches. No buzzing in my interior since.

Remove the door panel.
Then you'll see the tabs you need to remove. Once there buy some dynomat or similar.

Yikes ! Never thought I would have to remove the whole door panel, but it makes perfect sense. Outside of being the only way to remove the switch plate it obviously gives me the opportunity to sound proof other potential problem areas.

Turns out there is an excellent sticky post by WolfSongX in the electronics/audio section that provides details and photo's for doing the very thing that was suggested. As usual, I broke the number one rule, search before you post. Well at least you guys didn't beat me up for it.

Anyway, thanks for the help, looks like I won't be bored tonight.

@AD55, craft stores sell small 1' x 1' squares of self-adhesive felt. it works great for a very cheap sound deadening material.
