Anything that will run windows should work. I'm personally running it in a VM on a MacBook Pro. It works fine, although flashing new maps is slower than if i were to user a non-virtual xp or win7 box.

Picked up a Asus X401a laptop from Best Buy for $299. I upgraded the HD to a SSD and the memory to 8GB for another $200. You don't have to do the upgrades, but I didn't want a mechanical HD in the car just in case I hit any bumps. Works just fine for what it is.

I picked up a refurb Lenovo ThinkPad T400 with XPSP3 that will only be used for the sole purpose of flashing the car. I will be swapping out the HD for an SSD at some point.
No way would I ever consider a daily use laptop for that sort of thing.

Is this for logging purposes and if so does that mean you have to have it hooked up while running to record a log? I thought you just hooked up while in your garage and it just took it from the ECU

Yessir when logging data u should be running the car while being hooked up to a laptop...2nd gear and 3rd gear pulls from like 3k-7k rpm i think is good for job.

A Chromebook wouldn't work. A cheapo netbook would though.

Chromebook runs Chrome OS and there is no way to virtualize windows so no, it won't work.

Is it hard to run the ecutek cable from the ECU to the cabin or do you somehow have the laptop in the engine bay? (assuming this is while driving and not on a dyno)
