I did one whole bad Chicago winter with the oem tires (a/s not the primacy) and it was loads of fun since I'm not new to rwd but in a beginner's hands it would've likely resulted in a crash.

2013 10 series with the manual hands down. It's a 10 series and the price isn't too bad, and most importantly, it's manual.

My 2 cent go for a 2015 frs manual, you won't regret it, i have one and in winter it's really fun here in Quebec, problably egal or worst weather than Boston. Please buy winter tire, if you want you can buy it in the same time of the car and finance it, you will be good for the next 3 year.
Problably if you choose manual you can cut 800 from the price. The rate will be better for a new car, i don't know in Boston but here a new car is 2,9% and used one 6,5%. |

Where as I don't drive my FR-S during the winter months (yes, I'm older and that's what pick-ups are for), what no one has addressed about winter driving is the "Snow" button only available with the AT. It dumbs things down a little more for safer winter passage (and better gas mileage, so I was told). Unfortunately, with a ground clearance of 4.9", it wouldn't be my choice for winter driving (unless you prefer snow days).

the 10 series FRS I think is the one to go with. It is manual for one, super low mileage, and the 10 series comes with most of the interier amenities that the BRZ limited does.
and it's a cool color.

Yes I'm biased. 10 series! Considering they listed for $28k when they first arrived at dealers that is a great deal. They have almost all the 'upgrades' of the BRZ Limited except for heated seats. And the 10 series color is something else, very nice for a car this price. To give insight to how 'special' the paint is... it took 9 extra hours of labor to repaint my whole car for a hail damage repair. That equated to about an extra $450, and it was just because of the paint, it is a multi-stage iridescent.
