If you don't see your self getting a new car within 3 years, than I would just get the TT-S. If your budget fits. Yes European cars are "more" expensive to maintain, but everyone in this thread is hating. I'm sure the TT-S is fun, it's also more prestige and luxurious.

I don't see how this is a justification in anyway shape or form to NOT buying a used car.

Just get the BRZ, you'll have equal if not more fun than if you bought the audi, and you can spend the remaining $10k on great modifications you'd otherwise not be able to do.

As a fan of roadsters and a New Englander, if it has quattro I would without a doubt go for the TT if it's in my price range. I love the styling of the current gen TT! My next car is going to be either this or a Z4 (Maybe a 370Z or 2##Z).
Both cars will definitely be fun, don't let that be the defining factor! I have driven the new TT and it is an awesome car and I wish I could afford it. You get precise handling, very comfy seats, good throttle response, and lots of power, (among other things). Sure, we can all be armchair judges and tell you to get a used Cayman or 911 or whatever but how often will be able to find one with low miles, correct pricing, well kept, etc. such as the Audi TTS? You have the TTS in your grasp. You have two great cars to choose from. If it's in your price range, I'd go with the TTS.

If I had 40+ to spend I'd be looking at a Boss 302 or a used Cayman, not a TT. (If we're restricting it to <5 year old cars).
I'd probably still buy an FRS though. |

Literally all the time? There are so many Caymans and 911s available. You might have to spend some time looking, but it shouldn't be difficult to find a nice one for a reasonable price. I imagine there will be even more Caymans on the market shortly now that everyone's going to want a next-gen one.

Not many in Colorado actually. If you're willing to explore the west coast though California is actually made of used Porsches :3

I'd be far more interested in a S5 rather than the TTS myself. However, between those two, I'd save the $20k and get the BRZ. Especially if it's to be a DD.
BRZ - More seats - Better mileage - Far cheaper to insure - More fun to drive - Tail happy fun Audi - More power - More german - More plush - Year round drivability and snow time fun!

Personally, for $40k I would buy a 2010 S4, not a TTS. The S-Tronic (DSG) gearbox is not as fun as a traditional manual; that really kills it for me. The TT is a lot of fun though; I drove a 2012 2.0T and a 2007 3.2 6spd and they feel great to drive, except for that dual clutch auto. The chassis is mostly aluminum except for the rear trunk area which is steel to balance out the weight of the engine. It's just a little bit over 3,000lbs with AWD, which is impressive. It is a haldex-based AWD system, which isn't the ideal system.

My problem with Audi is that they try to fit 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag. And the TT is the worst of them. On my B5 S4 I had to take the entire front end of the car off to change the water pump, it took 12 hours. And they're always a weird little pump or relay that's failing on them somewhere.
For $40k there are plenty of barely used M3s that can be had. |

Audi TTS HANDS DOWN. ..if money isn't an issue.
APR's Aftermarket alone solidifies that choice. |

I really don't like the TT. I don't even know why, I'm usually all over German cars.
