Yes and motorcycles are deathtraps.

I'm looking at every way I can reasonably and cost effectively shave weight, but until I'm willing to trailer my car, I'd never do anything which would compromise factory safety levels. The moment I make the decision to go that route I'd consider it near suicidal to not have a properly fabricated full cage put into the car.

What do you think is going to happen in a side-impact collision on the street with carbon fiber doors? Why do you think the factory doors weigh so much /with the glass out/?

I should have my car weighted soon for this season (in a week). Im curious, for those that have remove the heater/vent/ac system completely (not just the AC compressor and condenser, but the heater core under the dash), you do loose the ability to use the fans to just blow air on the windshield inside, dont you? How do you deal with rain days? Its the only thing holding me back

Yep, theres no airflow from the fans after that. It's not bad when raining unless its absolutely pouring outside. Once the car is moving on track theres been enough airflow to keep condensation at bay on the inside of the windshield - In my experience anyway.

Mine tipped the scales at 2507 last week with 1/4 tank of e85.going to lose some more weight when I gut the headlights, ditch the passenger seat and harness, trim all un-needed tabs and studs in the cabin, and swap to an aluminum driveshaft.

Easy man but I don't recommend it lol. Kosei wheels, front and rear crash bar removed, and all right side air bags out.

All of that equals to 60lbs removed.

pretty sure Michele Abbate's car was the lightest car we could find with a full cage.

I thought I would throw out there for comparison that I just helped a buddy strip a $500 E46 330 coupe.

LF 764 RF 749
LR 748 RR 686
90lbs of fuel and 230lb driver. 2947lbs. Right rear is light but that is the best we got it too.

Not sure what it weighed before. Should have checked that. That's completely stripping the interior including the dashboard airbags but not the gauge cluster. Sunroof is gone and the rear windows are Lexan. A/C, Power steering and the factory exhaust is gone. It's got a ebay header now flowing into parts of the old exhaust with a muffler we had laying around. It was going to be a E46 spec car but now it looks like it's just going to be a track car. It does have the spec class brakes and coil overs.

I think it's amazing how much weight people are pulling out of these 86s. Everything in the BMW feels stupid heavy. I mean the floor mats must be 25lbs alone.

If talking about the weight, I see very often that light cars have carbon doors. So, it's well-known that carbon doors are lighter than standard doors. I've been reading similar threads on Reddit recently, and I saw a post where one guy said that CF hoods are way lighter than OEM hoods, but it doesn't hold for the twins because of the aluminum hood. So, the first thing you need to perform when the car becomes a trailer car is to find out if the gains in weight reduction are half as impressive as they are told. If I want to find out how much lbs does a car weigh, I usually visit this https://weightle.com/ site. Maybe, it will be useful for you as well.
