I think we're gonna need a quick-reference flash card for all of these distributed for future twin owners. Just so they don't get a culture shock.

And lol at all the people throwing buzz words out. "Twin turbo" "V8" "AWD". These guys are the biggest tools ever. They buy crap based on a buzzword checklist so they can be impressionable and relatable to as many people as possible without knowing ****sh*t about anything.

Reminds me of all the Ferrari owners that show off in public and end up wrapping themselves around a pole. Or all the suburban blondes with convertible automatic Mustangs.

Gah.

Don't confuse them with big words like drivetrain.

They'll be wondering how the conversation went from cars to trains.

I'm walking up to my BRZ at a turn on a racetrack where I've been shooting (photography) and I see a car zooming across the grass towards me. I'm alone at this corner on this early first day of practice for this race weekend. There's not a soul there except me and my BRZ.

This fellow and his wife pull up beside me, and he declares "Okay, I want to know the story here! That's a KID'S car!"

I look at him and smile.

"So … what are YOU doing driving this car?!" he demands to know.

I’m old, you see, and I guess I'm really looking older these days. What can I say? Too old for his taste, apparently.

This guy cannot believe the BRZ is my car. He just doesn't understand it. Or, he WON'T understand it. This, now, despite being a middle-aged racer himself and having won championships in southern California racing Miatas with his wife. Or, so he subsequently told me as we chatted.

The idea of this old guy actually owning a BRZ was more than he could grasp; it just couldn't be. I guess he'd have been fine had I been a Ferrari driver as everyone thought a few weeks later at the Ferrari Club event. (No Ferraris for me, alas.)

After maybe 15 minutes of talking, he says "No, really… This is your SON'S car, isn't it? You just borrowed it to drive to the track today, right?"

He was relentless. And he was clearly SERIOUS.

Then the next group came on track and I had to get a new lens out and resume shooting. He drove off, and I have no idea whether he ever believed that it was MY BRZ.

I thought it was quite funny.

I was telling my manager about the exhaust I plan on buying for my FR-S and he replies "Oh so it will sound like the Subaru? Hahahah".

He is apparently a "car guy" and should know that the BRZ and FR-S are twins but he refuses to get past the badges that identify the two. He thinks the BRZ is completely different even though we share the exact same engine...

Couldn't that same statement be used on a minivan? Why does everybody need to convince people that the car is fast and that's what's important?

Because, buzz words.
That and illegitimate interest in motorsports. Like all technical hobbies, there's always "that" group of know-nothing braggarts.

I was just at the Wawa and some guy was telling me how our cars come with 7-spd automatics. He was also telling me how the brz looks like a gtr at a certain angle. I just nodded and said I had to go.
