I for one am ready for the future. Bring on our electric overlords.

With the advent of super capacitors in WEC and LeMans and generally a hybrid theme in all of the top tiers of racing it will be coming our way if you like it or not. I think the segment were (20-30K) in will be immune for another generation, maybe two, but as the cost of hybrid tech comes down and the advances in tech come up this is the world we will be living in.

Say what you will but to me a high revving, turboed, 2.0L, with torque fill during spool up and gobs and gobs of torque sounds awesome to me. Add to that an ability to go 30-40 miles on electric power only (i.e. a commute to and from work) and they are on the verge of creating the perfect car for $5-6/gallon gas.

Gas isn't going to get cheaper anywhere. And every generation of car that gets made which is not as efficient as it could be, or doesn't use the latest technology available isn't doing us any favors. If a manufacturer wants a flagship in today's day and age they better come heavy with the tech, power, and efficiency all in the same package. Because if they don't someone else will.

I agree with SuperHatch on this one.

The only thing I'm going to miss however are my 3 pedals. Oh well. Future generations will look at manual transmission probably how I look at Carburetors.

Lets please keep all Supra talk in the official thread.

Also this "report" is from Holiday Auto Magazine (Japan). They aren't the most credible source out there.

I'll jump on board as soon as a manufacturer comes up with a dummy H pattern shifter connected to their Dual Clutch Tranny that makes me feel like I'm still shifting my own gears. Yes, it'd be a placebo effect but I'd prefer it over the paddles.

Honestly I don't know why this hasn't happened yet. Nissan already has the technology in their syncro-rev matching manual to be able to sense the position of the shifter and predict your next gear to rev match. How come they can't pair that to a DCT to mimic a traditional 6 speed H pattern minus the clutch pedal? (I should patent that idea lol)

I think batteries will be outdated soon and quick charge slow release supercapacitors made out of carbon (read: grind it up and throw it away when it's dead) are going to be the next big things. But battery tech advancing up until that point is still good news. Were literally living on the cusp of the first big mass market advancement of the automobile since the internal combustion engine which showed up in cars 130 years ago. Exciting times if you ask me.

Eh I won't get too excited until there's an official production model shown at the Known international auto shows and of course a production release date. The FT-1/Supra concepts look great but of course never end up looking as good as the concepts (example the Toyota FT86 MK1, MK2, MK3).

I don't like the lines of the FT-1 at all...

I think something with a longer wheelbase and longer front end more similar to the ft86 with some more aggressive lines would be perfect for a new supra....

70k or not, we just want to see it on the road! Or in my case, in my garage!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think the 7th gen Celica is the opposite of attractive.
