A ding on the side of my car (paint question)

I noticed a ding on the side of my car and took it to ICBC to be assessed. They gave me a write up to take to a shop.

What I'm curious of is why would a 2015 FR-S with ICBC's Replacement cost policy (OEM parts only) would the rear quarter require blending of the door?

There should be no fading in less than 5 months of ownership. The new part should match, right? Is ICBC trying to screw me?

no they aren't

blend means match to the original.. your 5 months of ownership is different than when the paint was applied. This also is important as newly sprayed paint may be off from even the same color code, all other things considered

They probably blend the door so the color matches the rest of your car?
If they don't blend it, the portion being painted will be "off"

paint can be slightly off even when 1 day apart if the paint comes from a different batch. even way more trickier when dealing with pearl white.

If this is the case, why wouldn't they blend the bumper too?

Actually, going back, there was an unanswered reasonable question!

They probably don't need to blend the bumper because of where the dent is (you really didn't say), If it is far enough ahead of the bumper they can blend in between without going all the way back. I presume it is close enough to the door to not have the room to blend.
Obviously they have to start and stop someplace and can't do the whole car for every ding.
Like Koa said just trust them unless they prove themselves untrustworthy.

A tree branch fell onto the back of mine and caused two small dents on the quarter panel near the rear glass , two panel shops wanted to remove the rear glass , parcel shelf and airbag and respray the whole rear of the car.
I took it to the first PDR guy and he wouldn't do it because he said the dents were too close to the glass.
So I took it to " Impact Dent Removal " and he did a simple glue pull PDR and it took less than 30 minutes and only $110.
So the real problem , is to find someone that is good at PDR , and not let anyone bog it up and repaint half the car.
