Wonder if it was the brush that he stopped on top of. The surrounding brush looks really dry to me and it looks like he tried to push the car when he saw smoke so possibly the hot exhaust caused the brush to light up.

I think this is what happened, if you look at the surrounding grass it's all super dry.

It's very possible the fire started, because of him stopped his car on dried grass. The exhaust is very hot at the track.

Real good response time from the fire safety team. Jeeze that should have been stopped in under 3 minutes.

Dry grass is the only explanation because the car was turned off for 42 seconds before smoke started showing

Back home in CA I'm always worried about this happening when pulling off the side of mountain roads in the summertime. Any time there's dry plant stuff around instead of pure dirt / gravel it makes me very nervous.

The dry grass theory would seem to be consistent with him trying to push the car right after it started to get it away from it.

Man, that sucks.

If the dry grass explanation is correct, it's important to keep in mind how hot the exhaust gets on these cars when pushed hard. I remember a few guys were having issues with their bumper covers melting off on the track with the muffler deletes.
