Body-Color Headlamp Housings

So I decided last night to give it a go at painting my headlamp housings. I followed the DIY to a tee, which was such a great help. I was going to paint black like everyone has been doing but I decided to something different and go body-color.

I'm gonna be honest, I hate to say this after all that hard work but I'm not so sure I like it. Though I do like the fact that it is different than anybody else from what I've seen. It was a big risk doing it this way having not seen one like it before, and I don't regret it, but at the same time just not 100% sure its the look I wanted. Very happy to have done it so others can get an idea of how it looks if you're considering it.

While I was at it I baked the turn signal housings and painted them black to match the faux fog lamp vent trim. I love that part.

Tell me what you guys think.

I will have to agree with you on this. It isn't really my cup of tea either, but hey, it's unique! I give you MAD props for trying something new!
My bawls are certainly not huge enough to do something like this with a brand new car...You, my friend...got guts!

That all being said, you did a flawless job on these and they don't look bad at all! You didn't forget to mask the high-beam reflectors either.
Thanks for sharing!

Cheers!

I like it, looks pretty mean. I don't think it would work on all colors though, silver would look good but i wouldn't do it on red or blue.

Let's see it at sunset with the lights on.

Yeah I was disappointed it is a cloudy day today but I will take some pics on a nicer day and some at sunset.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.

How did you take the turn signal housing apart?

If you dont like it you could take them back apart and then paint over the orange except for the part of the headlight that looks like the teardrop goin down the side and under the projector.

I'm sorry man but that doesn't look at all. Only Ferrari can pull off colormatched headlight trims.

Pull them off and respray them in black!

You bake it just like the headlamps. I'm surprised nobody else has done it (or at least posted it)
from what I've seen. It's really easy. The only thing is the paint had a really hard time sticking to the reflector for some reason. Had no problems with the heads or tails when I painted those but the signal reflectors didn't want to hold the paint. I recommend using a good primer, for anybody wanting to do it.

I am hoping to upgrade to HID retrofit and possibly a nice-looking custom LED strip at some point so I will rock these for a while and see if they grow on me. Honestly every time I look at the pics I like them more and more.

Corvette comes to mind as well. And not at all the same, but the Honda Fit has color-matched housings from factory that look good imo.

But I see your point.

I hate to say this but it looks good. I did not paint my daughters headlights during the retrofit kit install. This makes me wish I had.
