Definitely want to keep that undercarriage nice and clean and salt free. I do agree with getting it clean, I myself go get it washed at least once every other week (as long as its above freezing outside).

My stock exhaust and most of the fasteners used for the suspension bits rusted up after only a few months, and my car lives in southern California. If it won't stay rust-free out here, there's nowhere it's going to stay rust-free.

Is that because of living right by the ocean since you guys don't get road salt I guess?

I think it's just the materials tbh.

Looks like typical aluminized steel to me. Likely it's just cheap/thin so it's rusting. It's not going to be as rust resistant as stainless by a long shot.

Obviously, OP is inquiring about the subject to those who actually drive their cars in winter conditions.

Obviously, I am being facetious.

Mine is like that too but i'm not worried about the exhaust as I plan on replacing it. What i am worried about the most is the rust on the control arms. It looks like yours are rusting too. Only have 3000km on this and its already rusting. Also got it corrosion free'd.

It seems like Subaru cheaped out on the exhaust. My previous car which I owned for 10 years, never even came close to rusting, not even surface rust.
I actually asked about this as my 2011 outback has pretty significant corrosion on the exhaust pipe and muffler. It's not covered as it's seen as normal wear and tear. Brakes, windshield wipers, and other assorted items are covered by the warranty but not the exhaust; as told to me by one of the shop techs.

I am an older member here, and I remember that when the BRZ first came out, some members noticed that you will also rust underneath your trunk lining in the corners. Their is supposed to be a rubber plug there. Check, if not, your trunk might be rusting there as well.
