Need Transmission Upgrades for Turbo?

I currently have an A/T and have a FA20CLub Turbo kit on the way with fuel pump and 540cc injectors and 60 Trim turbo. I talked with my local shop about installation and they were concerned with the fact that I wasn't getting clutch or flywheel upgrades. For those of you with Turbos more specifically A/T FT86's, have you done anything to your transmission for Turbo installations?

Haha, they are top quality shop so I don't think so, they are just looking out for my car. So I assume I don't need tranny upgrades until about 400+ WHP?

Currently there have been very few testers of the automatic transmissions. P&L has made good power with there car and I have not heard about any issues as of yet. From my understanding that car has been enjoyed for a while now. I personally recommend at least a trans cooler as you will be adding additional strain which in turn produces heat. There has been no testing on that thought process with this transmission yet either. Waiting on a turbo kit to get here for one of my customers and we will be installing a trans cooler for his.

They aren't top quality if they mention a clutch around an automatic transmission.

What are apex seals, where are they located and why should I be concerned?

he's trolling you. piston engines don't have apex seals, same as automatic transmissions don't have clutches.

Automatic transmissions do have clutch packs (just being a trolling ****, I know this is not what you are referring to), apex seals are used in a rotary engine.

Paul @ P&L developed a trans cooler for the shop AT and it runs much better.

Thank you Hawaiian, I felt one would be necessary but had not seen testing that proved my thought process yet.

If you have such blind faith then it doesn't matter what any of us say, you have already made your mind up.

AT coolers and good AT fluids (I use redline) should be good. Like someone said here, I'd save a back up fund for when the tranny does decide to blow up.

I'd say the people going FI right now is still in phase 1, and they are working out alot of the kinks regarding tune/boost/supporting mods etc., so a lot of it is still unknown, especially the longevity of OEM parts.
