This is what they clutch fork sounds like at the moment. Sounds like a lack of lube and dirt. This clutch boot seems flimsy too as if water, salt, dirt, etc can get in the housing and rust out the metal bits. Seemed dirty in there from what I could see.

Now you're cooking with gas. That's it right there. Completely dry.

I just got my clutch replaced in my car. The clutch would squeak when I would engage it. If it is squeaking take it to the dealership ASAP. I ignored it and my clutch went completely out. As in, I put it in drive and heard a loud clunk with the clutch stuck to the floor. I have a brand new clutch assembly now and no squeak or anything. I'm pretty sure I know the main the cause of it.

We have two pretty decent size holes and you can clearly see the clutch/flywheel. Dirt and grime can easily get up in there which is what happened to mine. My clutch was so far gone with less than 50k miles and was full of dirt. The dirt got caught in the back of the TOB causing the squeaking which ultimately led to the failure of my clutch.

Very interesting. Can somebody get a closer shot or video of the hole in the trans? That doesn't sound right at all!

I just searched in google "Scion FR-S Transmission". Should bring up a decent amount of photos. Looks to be a very poor design and what could be the culprit of our problems.

I wonder if those holes are supposed to be open, or if there's a plug or something that's supposed to be in there normally.

I'm not sure. Every photo I've seen shows it opened up. I remember going to the Toyota dealership on Thursday and they had my transmission dropped and I noticed the two holes which made me curious. I came home google searched it and found other photos showing the holes opening up to the clutch.

So had the dealership I work at take a look at my car. They greased the clutch fork and after 10 miles squeak is back. On the plus side, every throw is like butter... I'll have them take another look.

If the transmission is open like those photos and the TOB is exposed to the elements I can only imagine what it looks like for us Northeast owners. The squeak I was hearing did sound like rusted/dirty metal. I opened the clutch boot and sprayed lithium grease on the clutch fork and let it run down to the bearing and pivot area. Not the best idea but better than spraying all over the housing. The lithium grease grabs some of the dirt too. I'm already passed the warranty but I've seen a few used MT transmissions for around a grand so still cheaper than dealer repairs.

Those bozos. They only greased the top pivot. Gotta drop the tranny to get to the squeak.

Edit: I discovered it's possible to lube the fork center pivot just underneath the dust boot. Move the slave cylinder out of the way and remove the dust boot. The pivot is tight but I could reach it with my finger.

It's been about a week since I used the white lithium grease on the clutch fork through the transmission boot. The squeak went away almost immediately after 20 mins of driving the day I applied the grease. It's been about a week and it has been raining quite often throughout the week. Usually the squeak would return on rainy days and be very audible but I do not hear or feel anything in the pedal. I will occasionally hear a slight squeak here and there but no where near as bad as it was before.

I will continue to monitor and will most likely reapply grease this Saturday. Hopefully the lithium grease is doing it's job and grabbing dust and dirt from areas that have been heavily impacted by the environment/clutch dust.

I missed this. Those holes are supposed to be open. There is a vortex under the bell housing created by the spinning parts. Fresh air is pulled in under a port at the top left and blows out at the bottom. There is a cover bolted over the top port to keep out foreign objects but it's open to breathe.

Too lazy to look back for a pic, could you put one up of where you applied the grease and how you got to that spot? Thanx.

Why does a clutch need to breath? Maybe I'm missing something here, but that is a poor design. I've owned several MT cars and every one of them had an enclosed, completely sealed off transmission. Clutches don't get hot unless you're a terrible driver and ride the piss out of it. Hmm, just doesn't seem like a good design IMO.
