Norcal86 General Announcement/Notice Thread

So sometimes we as a board or even you as the community may have a more formal announcement that you dont want to get lost in the Off Topic thread but doesn't really need its own thread. With that, I give you the Norcal General Announcement and Notice Thread!

See 2nd post for cliffnotes of most recent announcements.

MyRx aka Jessie is a Norcal86 board member now working for Elite Performance. He will abstain from voting on vendor related issues but continue to serve on the board.

For those of you who are new to the forums and the NorCal 86 community I feel a short intro is in order. @finch1750 feel free to paraphrase or copy this up into the top thread (or not haha).

What is the NorCal86 Owner's Club?
Well at a minimum it helps maintain an official identity for our local community. Here are some of the things the NC86OC can and does participate in:
  • organize large scale meets within the NorCal community (i.e. annual meet)
  • organize even larger scale meets with other communities (i.e. meet ups and events with SoCal, Las Vegas, Oregon, Washington etc.)
  • manufacture and distribute NC86OC “official” merchandise to let members support and represent (i.e. stickers, shirts, etc.)
  • organize community-oriented activities to give back to the community (i.e. toy drives, charity work, etc.)
  • coordinate and contact with local businesses/shops to arrange group/club discounts or benefits
  • raise funds in order to allow the above activities to take place.
  • conduct other activities that are in keeping with the spirit/purpose of the organization.

How is the leadership selected?
Based on discussions we had within the community, we decided that the leadership of the NorCal 86 community should be determined in a democratic process. We nominated and selected 5 Board members and 1 President (who is one of the 5 Board members) to represent the Northern California region as a whole and they act to carry out the goals as outlined above. Elections take place once a year (in March) and the Board serves a 1 year term.

To ensure that each Board member is "invested" and committed to the community, upon entry into the Board they submit funds ($100 for the President, $50 for each of the other Board members) into the club's general account. The Board regularly meets or discusses club business and is charged with acting in the best interests of the overall community that it serves. Board members also make efforts to be active members in the community, making themselves available at meets and local activities.

How can I get involved with the club?
It's easy, just participate here in the forums, and/or come out to our meets and events and introduce yourself. If you feel you have talents or skills that can benefit our community, we would love to hear from you. Although the Board obviously plays a large role in planning and conducting the activities described above, it is also hugely dependent on the support and volunteerism of the entire community. Simply said, nothing would get done without the help of individuals who contribute their time, knowledge, connections, and other resources to help us get things done. So we thank all those who participate, and all those who volunteer to help as we continue to grow and mature as a car enthusiast club/community.

One of Norcal86’s main goals is to be transparent and accountable to the community. Being a democratically elected board helps us do that and MyRX aka Jessie is graciously serving his second term as a board member. He also recently began a new employment opportunity at Elite Performance, a new vendor on this forum that as you may have seen is a very well respected shop. So first off congrats to @MyRx

He will remain on the board through his term and as long as he should be re-elected, however due to his new position he will abstain from any votes regarding vendors. We will still welcome and ask for his input leading up to such votes but only 4 of the 5 board members will make the final call. It’s great that our connections in the car community can open new opportunities for us and we welcome Jessie’s new role at Elite Performance. Be assured that they will receive the exact same treatment that all our other supporting vendors receive.
