I'd go to at least the rear axle, but depending on the organization they may want it outside the body work making your design basically a custom straight pipe. (After all, there are vents all the way in the back of the trunk gases could sneak up into, I wouldn't want it any shorter than the rear bumper, but that's my priorities)
