I've yet to find a reliable third party dyno of a tuned car then adding and intake and retuning....

This is the only way to know if the car will make more power on top of say a tune or full exhaust and a tune.

So far i've found air raid is a joke. Injen isnt much better and all the rest "make power" untuned by changing the afr.

I would love to be proven wrong.

To "re-tune" for an intake, all you actually need to do is rescale the MAF correctly. There is nothing more to it than that. Whether that would then gain you anything over the OEM airbox, I doubt it would be much.

That's because the threads turn into a big argument over panel filters and CAI's. I would say its very difficult to find the perfect intake since so many cars vary and intakes add so little HP. I say pick one that has a high flow filter like the TRD one, and call it a day and tune it.

I think the only intake worth noting currently is the Perrin 3" intake which I'm not sure makes more power or not. Never seen any dynos of it outside of Perrin's personal testing. We do have relatively large throttle bodies so it might be worth it once tuned.

the stock intake I'd say is very good - benefits from a filter that isn't a 50K miles device but I don't think any of the after market items are needed unless you're up into the 300 + Bhp region

Not keen on the hose between airbox and throttle though - replacing that with smoothbore hose with no noise generator takeoff must be worth something surely......

Agreed. And for heavens sake do not get the Injen CAI. Ruins your car. Makes it choke out to stall and bog at low rpms. Injen was nice enough to refund me the money 3 mos later

That is exactly what I was getting at.

Would a tuner be able to get more out of a car after adding an intake?

Other than looks and the noise they make I haven't seen a intake that wows me to the point where I need to spend the money.

Money would be better spent on other things

That's what I've read so far....headers seem to be a different story depending on which one you get
