BC Coilover failure in the past

I've been reading through different forums about how BC coilovers failed in customer's cars under normal conditions in the past, hope its made better now.

Evo X owner (2010):
The main threaded tube snapped when he went over a bump at just 65mph.
Edit: The driver ran over rumble strips


Mazda 3 owner (2009):
Hit an uneven surface

we have been selling BC Racing coilovers for many years now and not once had a failure, if you spend the time you can search through find failures for just about every company out there... i spent 2 minutes looking for a failure on a KWs and found this... i could probably do the same for many others...

When someone has an issue with a product they are quick to post up about their bad experience and how terrible they think a product may be but that may be 1/1000 or 1/10000 failure rate (not saying that either is acceptable), but no manufacturer is perfect, they can not control all of the variables to ensure their product is installed and used properly, and not abused. While we are a big supporter of BC im not stating that they can not or will not have issues at times but I am just making it clear that there is not a "perfect" manufacturer out there and BC is normally quick to stand behind their product when an issue does arise and that is the more important issue.

I've only heard good things about BC. But if it seems to good to be true, you know the rest.

Ninja edit: Just did a quick Google on Brand A-Z Coilover Failure. Not really surprising to see which ones have the most failures.

no

because the interface and packaging is the same

the question is of material choice, thickness and quality of welds

also seal quality


while i personally don't have any support for BC coilovers, i'm of the opinion that pretty much all of these horror stories are a result of of a combination of incorrect installation or use.

for instance, over-torquing, slamming, driving like a fool, etc.

I have known a ton of people using BC and nobody I know has had a failure. I think Slamming, or improper installation or use were probably factors.

I dont know the story on the Evo but i am sure he wasn't just going over a "bump".

That Mazda 3 guy hit a bag of concrete or something at Highway speeds.

The BC coilovers are perfectly fine and safe for street use. I used them on 3 of my personal cars and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Realistically this is just a Troll post.

"My issue was never knocking. My BC units covered about 3000 miles from new, mainly road miles whilst running in new engines, a few hundred track miles in sprints and 1 tarmac rally on a flat airfield. When I drove the car over the rumble strips at Teeside at approx 65mph with the steering straight, as I would expect to do with any car, they sheered at the main tube and caused me to crash. This was the first and last time I'd driven over such rumble strips with BC-Racing coilovers."

You'll never know thew whole story, he said he did a few hundred track miles, sprints and rallies.

He could have damaged the suspension at anytime, maybe cracked it, and the rumble strips were what caused the final failure. An off, a jump, etc. Anything could have caused it.

A car that is going to be driven hard and "raced" needs to have it's suspension checked over periodically to check for any issues.

The BC kits are going to be the same structurally as pretty much any of the Asian coilovers; Tein, Megan, Ksport, D2, Cucsoc, Greddy, Tanabe, etc.

I'm just posting this so people are aware and can be properly educated.

Usually you get what you pay for. The more expensive stuff tend to use better technology such as quality materials and better valving and spring rates. They do the R&D necessary to find the best balance. The lesser tend to copy the higher end. Not necessarily inferior all the time, but there are some sacrifices to bring costs down. If used correctly, there should be no reason for any brand to fail prematurely. By prematurely I mean by the company's standards.

Agreed that everything can fail.

Although I'd rather have a spring break than a damper body
