Toyota config site just went live and they show one on theirs. So I am guessing we could get that for our cars, even if Subaru doesn't brand one themselves.

On a Tahoe, sure. It is necessary as most people don't have garages designed for such a larger vehicle.
Do you own a new home? Most new homes built around me in the city of Atlanta have 20x20 garages. Walking between cars or sides of garage without folding mirrors is annoying.

There should be an optional sub coming for the BRZ soon! The configurator went live recently for the GR86 and it's a $700 option. Not sure how this would compare with the previous gen's popular oem audio brand subwoofer.

The stock amp definitely isn't going to push a sub.

Look at something like the OEM Audio upgrade. Not only does it replace the stock amp, but also has a dedicated sub amp.

FYI, This link does not work everywhere. If you get the "Out of Stock. But not out of reach." page then change your zip code in the upper right corner to 90011.

The Kicker sub for the ZC6 BRZ used a patch harness at the headunit to function as a crossover, and the sub has a built-in amp.

Thanks. That is very helpful info. My hope is to get the OEM sub upgrade.

I haven’t heard the old sub in person, but apparently the speakers benefit a lot from the crossover (makes sense). It doesn’t just pump the bass up, it clears up the mids and highs too.

I watched the install video for it earlier because I was curious.

I assumed, the replacement amp still powered all 8 speakers. But if that's the case, I don't understand why they would need to put a passive crossover on the mid in the dash.

And I don't think if anyone had confirmed it before, but it looks like the higher end trim GR86 comes with the upgraded stereo like the Limited BRZ. That might swing be back that direction because of the duck tail and highlighter blue color.

I’m assuming since they can focus on specific frequencies?

All of the mounting points should be identical. Or at least, as others point out, they appear to be the same given the speaker location hasn't changed. But last gen had 8 speakers standard on all cars, so I don't think it is clear if the car is pre-wired for the amp in the trunk and the 2 speakers you lose on top of the dash. Something tells me no. Why would they spend the time and money on that? That would also incentivize owners to spend more for the upper trim. But I could be wrong.

Beyond that, I don't think we know about ports and connections.
So based on this discussion, it sounds like they have 4" in the dash + tweater, 4" in the back and 6.25" in the doors?

Outside of OEM, does anyone recommend the Alpine R, Polk Audio or the Infinity Reference?
