Yes. Cumulative makes sense and the results are real. Taking the manual out of the glovebox and saying you feel a difference is not.

I think if we got all the options like the Japanese have, most of us wouldn't have issues.

DON'T WANT LUXURY? NEED LOW WEIGHT buy our RA race model!

Don't care about the Race Model but don't wanna pay for the top Model Buy our R !

Don't care for the None Race model, but still want a Race model and you can pay FOR IT OMGGGG here is our TS

TS too hard core for you with that big wing, and you like Brembos how about the GT, oh and you also get all the luxuries.

have funnnnnn.

Sigh If only... if only.....

of course then we'll have people talk about how there's too many choices and they regret this and that etc etc.

The weight difference between the 2 generations is only like 30lbs right? Has anyone taken their MY17 BRZ Limited to a scale yet?

Lol @Guff just asked me to take it in to a truck scale to see the weight. We should get a sign for my car "FT86Club test car"

Totally agree. Drove both a 86 and a Miata Club with the Sport package (Brembos/BBS wheels/Recaros) today and you could really feel the difference 400 or so pounds makes - its (wait for it) yuuuuge.

(OTOH the wind noise in the Miata top up on the freeway is a bit of a freakfest - the car needs to come with earplugs in the glovebox.)

Sadly only way you can get the Recaro seats in the US is buy a 124. The ND Club is quite a bit more $ than a 86 as well.

I just got back from test driving Canadian versions of the 2016 BRZ Sport-Tech and 2017 BRZ Sport-Tech back to back. The dealership had both ready for me and allowed me half an hour with each car. Both cars had < 30 km on the odomoeter.

For the Canucks based in Ontario on the forums, I did the QEW to North Service Road to King Road and back. This gave me a good mix of high way driving, curvy roads and regular city driving.

This is going to be contentious, but my opinion is that there are close to no differences between the cars. Any acceleration differences are negligible and if I were blinded, I would not be able to tell the two cars apart. Here's the few things I did notice:

1. I can confirm that the clutch engages earlier on the 2017. I like my clutches to engage down low, so this is a big improvement for me.

2. Shifter feel was identical. Any differences that can be felt I'd put down to idiosyncrasies between the individual parts.

3. Suspension felt the same. These are stiff cars and minor changes or tweaks are going to be very hard to notice on public roads.

4. The new LCD gauges are a nice touch, but it would trigger my OCD on a daily basis. It was impossible for me to unsee that ring cutting through the corner of the LCD display.

5. The 2016 steering wheel feels better in hand. It has better grips, is slightly larger and the leather feels better to my hands. I did, however, miss the steering wheel mounted infotainment controls. Canada did not get the upgraded infotainment unit and it's a pain in the ass to control using the buttons.

6. The engine tone sounds a bit smoother on the 2017 with the sound tube open. However, I plugged it mid way through and all differences evaporated.

7. It was raining and I could not tell the difference in light output between the LED headlights and HIDs.

8. I don't like the new spoiler. It looks tacked on (at least on WRB cars) and out of place. It probably works better on black or white cars.

There you have it. If it was my money, I would buy the 2016 and pocket the $2,000 incentive that Subaru is offering to clear out the older models. The mechanical changes are so minor that I wouldn't hang my purchasing decision on them. In my opinion, the big changes are the steering wheel mounted infotainment controls and the information available in the LCD screen. If those are worth $2,000+ to you, go for it. Otherwise, stick with the first generation.

Wondering if the rate of the clutch assist spring has simply been changed. This could be a good cheap mod for those that want to keep the spring (stop and go drivers), but still want improved clutch feel.

That would be a nice tweak if possible. At the end of the day, the clutch is super light, so it's not exactly a pain even with the higher engagement point.

I was unaware changes were made to the sound tube for 2017? So now there is no stock sound tube for 2017?

There's a sound tube with both the 2016 and 2017. My observations were the actual tone was a bit smoother in the 2017; however, when you plug the tube on both the 2016 and 2017, there was no observable difference.
