It's really not that easy to bend a drive shaft.
However, I also have a little bit of a hard time believing a scammer will meet up with the person to do a trade in cash. I don't know why the OP didn't take the seller up on his offer of using the warranty (assuming that offer was really made). Not sure we will ever get to the bottom of what happened to the driveshaft.

Disagree. It is all in getting a free range not a feed lot one. The free range is much better since they are not filled with hormones and waste products. Even the best feed lot ones are no good no matter how you prepare them.

Holy crap this got stupid . I bought it ONE MONTH prior to contacting him about the problem, not two. I didnt get a chance to install it for two weeks, but did roll it on a flat floor when I got home and it rolled flat. It stayed rolled in carpet under a shelf until I had a chance to install it. Amazingly, two weeks later it was unharmed by the jagged and abrasive burbur carpet I so haphazardly rolled it in. Install was easy, I know how to use a torque wrench and I've done this many times on many different cars, trucks and a van or two. When I did, it vibrated badly above 70 and lost power at all speeds. My 1st thought was I installed it incorrectly somehow. I took it off, checked to see if it still rolled flat (it did) and reinstalled it in a different position. Same thing in all 4 positions. I took it to a local shop where they told me it was out of balance and said some other shop could probably fix it. That's when I contacted the seller and got his reply. Since then for shits and giggles I installed it on a friends BRZ. Same shit, different car. I understand that I didn't install it right away and didn't contact him with my concerns until a month later. If someone contacted me a month after I sold them something saying it was broken, I'd be suspicious too. But nothing happened to it while I had it. I also have a hard time believing it was fine on his car and not two others. Unless something happened between the time he took it off and the time he sold it to me. Now I'm stuck with an out of balance driveshaft that's going to end up costing me more than a new one once I get it fixed.

How much would it cost for a new driveshaft? If it's cost effective to have it balanced, I suggest you have it balanced and keep the receipt with a note from the shop, that it was in fact out of balance. Then send a copy of the receipt and the shop's statement to the seller and ask him to pay half of the cost to have had the driveshaft balanced. If the seller refuses, chalk that up to experience - about buying used stuff. humfrz |

I am kind of confused. Got the shaft, waited a while ,then put it on and vibrated. went to a shop and was told it was bent. Last post says he checked for straightness when he got it and was ok. Now says it is out of balance. What did the first shop check to find it bent after he said he check and it was strait? Usually the weights are mounted on the outside making floor checking impossible. Are there points indicating the weights have come off?
