On topic though... Check your local laws. Maybe even ask an officer in passing. I honestly don't see what the big hype is to rebadge the car anyway. But it is your car and your money so if you like it then do the necessary research rather than panic over hearsay.

Scion cars are written as Toyota on registration, at least on mine and girlfriend's tc are.

But no, it's not illegal to change your badges to a Toyota from a Scion. |

You could put a BIG-ASS Hyundai sticker down both sides of your car, and nobody can do anything about it...except laugh. Badges are an exterior cosmetic addition, and there are no laws stating you must have them or that they match the vehicle.
You honestly are being overly paranoid on this one, but I do understand you wanting to avoid potential problems. |

The make and model is established by the VIN number so I would guess that if you had a problem the officer would have to run the VIN against the one on the registration. As far as identification purposes if you change the color you need to change your registration so I would imagine this COULD potentially be an issue with the wrong officer. I just checked CT's DMV website and the affadavit only specifies for color change, not emblem change so I don't even know how you WOULD be able to change. I would imagine as car people we would have heard this issue sooner with cars that have no emblems and junky pick-ups that have the wrong tailgate, vehicle brands/makes not in the system, etc.
If you ever do get a pulled over for it, make sure to stay calm, don't argue, take the ticket and argue your case in court with the magistrate. |

agree with everyone. putting Toyota badges on your Scion is no big deal. I wouldn't feel as comfortable putting Subaru badges on a scion because you might rouse suspicions that way.

Kinda like peeling the stickers off the tailgate of a Toyota pickup truck and making it a YO. I'd say it's BS....

I have a complete GT86 rebadge on my car, and have gotten pulled over three times (warnings!) and each time the officer wrote "Toyota GT86" on the warning slip and I've had no problems. Hahah, as long as the registration says it's a Toyota, I guess it's okay. I live in the Chicagoland Suburbs as well.

I think what really matters is that your registration match your VIN.

This whole discussion is getting silly. It DOESN'T mater what badges you have on your car, or if you even have them. As previous poster stated what matters it the VIN and color matches the registration. Example: All the Fierro's that have been converted to look like a Ferrari Testarossa's. It's still a Pontiac Fierro, and it's legal. Get it? |

A good friend of Mine rebadged his Infinity G20 to a Nissan Primera, Got yanked out of his car on the street in Beverly hills because the ignorant officers thought he had a stolen car with swapped plates.
I guess the cameras in the cars ID the License plate and retrieve the registration in some of the new cop cars, they got all excited thinking they randomly found a stolen car on the street and totally yanked him out of the car and cuffed him on the ground and everything... I'm pretty sure it isn't illegal, but never underestimate the potential of empowered people with guns. |
