The few friends I have are fat and lazy. Lol.
Yep, I thought I saw a video on Youtube someplace that didn't require the engine hoist. I'm looking for it. |

You could jack and support the motor and remove the subframe, and then remove the tranny. It's easier with a hoist, but it's potentially doable without one. If you have a few friends around with a few 2x4s and tow straps, one could lift the motor without a hoist - it just sucks and could end in tears. I've worked on an engine swap without a hoist before, and I would not recommend it.

I wouldn't say it's the only way. Back in my Honda building days, we used to get the car way up on jack stands (enough to get a body under the engine/trans). Use the jack and a block of wood to hold up the engine from below. Pull the trans out and onto your/buddies chest HAHA!! Then muscle it back up. Those were the days!

Yay birthday! Woke up to a letter from one of our vendors on here stating a data security breach had occurred few months back with a decent length of occurrence. Needless to say, I'm pretty pissed and have to go get my card switched out... again! |

You can probably rent a hoist for a reasonable price. It will make the job far easier (still a pain but easier)

I actually just found a place local to me that does just that. I'll try and get a quote on how much it would cost to rent a hoist.

The second jack is really going to help, but ultimately you will still need to muscle the trans in place when it's up there (from the bottom and top). From what I remember, Murphy's Law always kicked in, and things never just slid into place
